UW-Whitewater Captures Men's Basketball Tournament Title-Feb 27, 2023
OSHKOSH, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Basketball Tournament (presented by Culver's) with a 92-79 victory over UW-Oshkosh at Kolf Sports Center on Feb. 26.

The tournament title is the fifth in program history (2006, 2008, 2013, 2015) and secures the WIAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship. The Warhawks will make their 22nd NCAA appearance and first since the 2017 campaign. NCAA selections will be announced on Feb. 28 at noon.

Against top seed UW-Oshkosh (21-6), the Warhawks established a championship game record for points scored. The first 14 minutes was back-and-forth with the teams trading small runs. With the score knotted at 32 with 5:31 on the clock, Trevon Chislom (6'6''-F) sparked a run for No. 3 seed UW-Whitewater (21-7). From that point, the Warhawks rattled off 14 of the next 17 points for a 46-35 lead at the break. Five Warhawks scored in that span.

Chislom had the hot hand in the first half draining 18 points by the break.

The UW-Whitewater lead remained in double figures until an 8-0 Titan spurt cut the margin to five, 55-50, with 13:34 remaining. Six minutes later, UW-Oshkosh knocked down a three-pointer to pull within three, 68-65, with 7:11 on the clock.

Chislom had the immediate response with a triple for the Warhawks followed by a Delvin Barnstable (6'4''-G) defensive board and layup on the offensive end that pushed the lead back to eight. Barnstable and Carter Captran nailed back-to-back three's to extend the advantage back into double figures with less than four to go, 79-67.

The UW-Whitewater lead never dipped below nine points the rest of the way.

The Warhawks shot 50-percent from the floor and 44-percent from long range, while the UWW defense held the Titans to 38-percent from the field and 31-percent from deep.

Chislom led all players with 29 points leading a contingent of five Warhawks in double figures. He was 11 of 19 from the floor and 3 of 5 from long range, while hauling in nine rebounds and dishing out three assists. Delvin Barnstable hit 7 of 12 from the field for 18 points, while Miles Barnstable had 14.
Jameer Barker (6'2''-G) was 4 of 9 from the floor for 14 points adding a team-high four assists. Capstran registered a double-double with 13 points and 14 boards in the game.

Levi Borchert (6'5''-F) and Will Mahoney (6'2''-G) each had a team-high 16 points for UW-Oshkosh. Borchert added a game-best 15 rebounds. Hunter Plamann (6'0''-PG) chipped in 13 points and Carter Thomas added 12 points.
