Texas Lutheran Defeats Centenary for SCAC Title - Mar 3, 2015
With the score knotted at 67 inside of three minutes, Texas Lutheran University surged ahead and held on late to defeat Centenary College, 80-75. in the championship game of the SCAC Men's Basketball Tournament Sunday afternoon on the campus of the University of Dallas. Box Score | Official Tournament Website | Men's Interactive Bracke Tournament MVP Jordan Kouremetis (6'0''-G-94) led the Bulldogs with 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals while Donte McGee (6'5''-F) had 17 points and six rebounds. Sterling Holmes (6'1''-PG) and Zach Behr (6'5''-G) had 12 points each. Holmes also chipped in with team-highs of seven rebounds and six assists. McGee and Holmes both joined Kouremetis on the All-Tournament Team. With the victory SCAC Coach-of-the-Year Jimmy Smith , in his first season in Seguin, led his Bulldogs to an incredible worst to first turnaround from a year ago. The 2013-14 Bulldog squad finished eighth in the SCAC with a league mark of 3-11 (9-17 overall). Travion Kirkendoll (6'3''-G) had 18 points and six rebounds to lead four Centenary players in double figures while James Sapp (6'4''-F) had 15 points a game-high nine rebounds. Both Kirkendoll and Sapp were named to the All-Tournament Team. Kendall Demouchet (6'4''-F) had 14 points, three steals and two blocks off the bench for the Gents while Isiaiah Whitaker (6'1''-G) added 10 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Southwestern's Ryan Ogden (6'3''-F) was also named to the six person All-Tournament team. Texas Lutheran improves to 18-9 with the win and will represent the SCAC in next weekend's NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament. Centenary ends its season with an overall mark of 17-10 mark.
