Saint Vincent men secure fourth-straight PAC title - Mar 1, 2016

Top-seeded Saint Vincent College earned its fourth-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Basketball Championship Tournament title Saturday at the Robert S. Carey Center in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, holding off fourth-seeded Thomas More College 65-62.
Saturday's three-point title game margin was the closest in the PAC since fourth-seeded Grove City College dealt third-seeded Washington & Jefferson College a 60-58 loss on February 24, 2007 in Washington, Pennsylvania. Five of the league's last six championship games have been decided by single digits. The Bearcats' current four-year title run is the longest in the league since W&J posted four-straight PAC championships from 1992-95.
Saint Vincent, now 22-6 on the season, earned the league's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament with Saturday's victory. The Division III Championship teams and pairing will be announced live Monday, February 29 on the NCAA Championship website (www.ncaa.com) at 12:30 p.m.
Senior guard Pat Jones (6'3''-G) (Frostburg, Md./Bishop Walsh posted a team-high 17 points on 8-of-15 shooting, grabbed four rebounds and registered three assists to lead top-seeded Saint Vincent (22-6) to a 65-62 victory over fourth-seeded Thomas More (17-11) in Saturday's PAC Championship Tournament title game. Thomas More, trailing by just five (31-26) at the half, outscored Saint Vincent 16-12 over the first 9:06 of the second period to take a 44-42 lead with 10:54 to play. The Bearcats watched their second-half lead swell to as many as 10 (63-53) before freshman guard Ryne Callahan (6'0''-G) (Morehead, Ky./Rowan County) scored with just under two to play, cutting Thomas More's deficit down to just three, 65-62. The game's final 1:53 was played without a point scored. Saint Vincent senior guard Jaylon Bell (5'11''-PG) (Ocoee, Fla./West Orange) finished with 14 points and three assists while senior guard JC Howard (6'2''-G) (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) added 12 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists. Junior forward Austin Ford (Blue Bell, Pa./Sanford School) chipped in with a game-high 10 rebounds and seven points. Callahan finished with a game-high 18-point effort for the Saints, knocking down 4-of-6 attempted three-pointers. Junior guard/forward Simon Clifford (6'6''-F/C) (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) and freshman forward Junior Stockwell (6'4''-C) (Florence, Ky./Boone County) each totaled 12 points.
