NCAC
champion Wooster (22-6) claimed its league-leading 11th NCAC tournament
championship after a hard-fought 84-72 victory over sixth-seeded Wabash.
Freshman forward
Justin Hallowell (6'7''-F) poured in a game-high 33 points to give the
Fighting Scots the edge. He shot 10-for-13 from the floor and was 6-for-9 from
long range. Hallowell also grabbed eight rebounds. Throughout the three-game
event, he totalled 61 points and earned the 2009 Al Van Wie award as the
tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Ian
Franks (6'3''-G) also represented the Scots on the all-tournament team.
Wabash was led by
Wes
Smith (6'3''-F) and
Chase
Haltom (5'10''-G). Both received all-tournament honors after scoring 18 and
20 points, respectively, in the championship game. Kenyon's
Dave
Jolson (6'3''-G) and Allegheny's
Henry
Heeter (6'3''-F) round out the all-tourney honorees. Wabash, the first sixth
seed to advance through the NCAC men's tournament to the championship game,
closes out its season with a 14-13 record.
