Keene State Wins Fourth Consecutive LEC Men’s Basketball Title, Punches NCAA Ticket with 80-67 Victory over WestConn-Mar 7, 2025
Sophomore Wesley Odiase narrowly missed a double-double by compiling 20 points and nine rebounds while Little East Conference tournament Most Outstanding Player Octavio Brito (6'4''-G) recorded his second double-double of the tournament as the Keene State College men's basketball team made history on Saturday afternoon at Spaulding Gymnasium, dominating Western Connecticut State University 80-67 to win their fourth consecutive Little East Conference tournament championship. It was more history for the Owls (22-5) and their group of four seniors, who completed four dominant years in the LEC with a 66-7 record including a 9-0 mark in postseason tournament games. Overall, KSC is 97-18 over the past four years including 76-11 in the past three. The Owls are also an eye-popping 116-24 on their home court since the start of the 2014-2015 campaign, when they won their second conference tournament championship. They have added six more since and now have eight overall – the second most in the conference behind the University of Massachusetts' 12, though seven of the Corsairs' titles came before KSC joined the league in 1997. Today's came was controlled by Keene State throughout, as the Owls held WCSU to just 22 percent (6-for-27) shooting in the opening half while opening an 18-4 lead nine minutes in and a 37-20 edge at the break. Their advantage was never remotely threatened in the second half, as they opened with a 12-6 burst to make it 49-26 with 14:51 to go and widened the gap to 31 (70-39) with 8:24 left on a trey by Brito. WestConn finishes the season 18-9, trailing by at least 30 in both of their meetings at Spaulding Gymnasium where they are 9-26 all-time. The Owls have beaten the Wolves at home in the LEC final three consecutive years – 83-79 in overtime in 2023 and 84-68 last season before this year's romp.
