York Captures 2020 C2C Championship in Dramatic Fashion - Mar 1, 2020
York captured its fourth Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday (Feb. 29) with a 79-77 road victory over Christopher Newport inside the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University. The second-seeded Spartans also celebrated with the conference hardware in 2018, 2012 and 2005. With the contest tied with seconds remaining, CNU's Dalon McHugh put up a three-point attempt which was thwarted by York's David Giuliani (6'4''-F) who recorded the conference-championship-winning block to lift the Spartans to victory. C2C Player of the Year Jared Wagner (6'1''-G) led all scorers with 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting to go with seven assists. C2C Men's Basketball All-Tournament Team Most Valuable Player Darin Gordon (6'3''-G-97) chipped in with 23 points, while David Giuliani posted 19 points in the win. CNU was guided by a team-high 20 points from Jason Aigner (6'2''-G) with Luther Gibbs (6'0''-PG) dropping in 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting in defeat. Christopher Newport fired 50 percent from the field, including 8-of-16 from distance in the first half. The score was knotted up six times with ten lead changes in the first half alone as the Captains led 47-40 at the break. York came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and hit seven triples and outrebounded CNU by a 26-20 margin in the second half to key the victory.
