Cowboys win 2025 ASC Championship-Mar 7, 2025
The Hardin-Simmons University men’s basketball team won the 2025 American Southwest Conference Men’s Basketball Championship with a 73-62 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon in Marshall. Hardin-Simmons pulled ahead 8-4 to start the championship contest. Mary Hardin-Baylor took their first lead 10-8 at the 15:09 mark after scoring six unanswered. The Cowboys reclaimed the high ground as they went on an 11-2 run with less than ten minutes remaining. UMHB tied it back 23-23 at the 4:48 mark after an 11-4 run sparked by a Maurice Pinnock (5'11''-PG) layup. The final minutes played even, closing the half with Hardin-Simmons ahead 34-31. UMHB’s Maurice Pinnock recorded eight points in the first three minutes to put the Cru ahead 39-38. The Cowboys quickly responded with a 13-2 run to reclaim a 51-41 lead with 14:24 on the clock. Hardin-Simmons added another 10 unanswered points, led by DJ Jones with eight, to push their lead to 17. UMHB fought back in the last seven minutes, outscoring the Cowboys 12-2 to cut the gap to 69-62. Hardin-Simmons sealed the win in the final two minutes with a pair of free throws and a dunk from Christian Bryant (6'8''-F) for the 73-62 win. UMHB’s Maurice Pinnock led with 23 points while HSU’s Christian Bryant totaled 20 points with four blocks and three steals. Christian Bryant, forward from the Hardin-Simmons University, was voted the All-Tournament MVP of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
He collected multiple other honors, was chosen to the First Team and Defensive Team and Tournament Team.
Among many awards Bryant's team made it to the ASC Tournament Semifinals in 2024.
He was selected to the ASC All-Freshman Team in 2024.
Will Bartoszek, forward from the Hardin-Simmons University, was selected as the Sportsmanship Award at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
He received multiple other awards, was named to the First Team and Tournament Team.
Among many awards Bartoszek's team made it to the ASC Tournament Semifinals in 2021, 2022 and 2024.
He was also selected as the All-ASC Player of the Year in 2024.
Bartoszek was selected to the Texas All-District 11-6A First Team back in 2020.
He was also selected to the All-ASC Second Team in 2023.
Bartoszek was selected to the NABC Division III All-Americans Third Team in 2024.
Elijah Beard, point guard from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, earned a spot in the First Team of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
He was also voted to the Tournament Team.
Among many awards he played in the final of the ASC Tournament in 2024.
He was selected to the D3hoops.com All-Region 10 Second Team in 2024.
Beard was also selected as the TABC All-Star Game back in 2021.
Austin Brewer, center from the Hardin-Simmons University, was selected to the First Team at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Among many awards Brewer's team made it to the ASC Tournament Semifinals in 2022 and 2024.
He was selected to the ASC All-Defensive Team in 2024.
Brewer was also selected to the All-ASC Second Team in 2024.
He was selected as the All-ASC Honorable Mention in 2023.
