Best performed former New Mexico Highlands University players in pro basketball in last week games

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Cowboys alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.


   #1. Chris Newsome (6'2''-G-90, graduated '11, plays pro in Philippines) led Meralco Bolts to a victory over the closely-ranked TNT Ka Tropa (2-3) 88-77 in the Filipino PBA last Wednesday. He was MVP of the game. Newsome scored 20 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 34 minutes. Meralco Bolts (2-2) are placed fifth in the PBA. It's Newsome's fourth season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year 11.8ppg, 6.5rpg and 3.8apg in four games he played so far.

   #2. Momcilo Latinovic (6'6''-SG-89, graduated '12, plays in United Kingdom) contributed to a Cheshire Phoenix's victory against the eighth-ranked Bristol Acadamy Flyers (8-7) 68-63 in the British BBL on Saturday night. Latinovic scored 13 points. Cheshire Phoenix (10-9) is placed fourth in the BBL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Latinovic has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages 16.4ppg, 3.9rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3spg. Latinovic has also Hungarian nationality.

   #3. Mike Nwabuzor (6'2''-G, graduated '18, currently in Germany), who plays in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) could not help Dorsten (11-6) in their last game. Despite Nwabuzor's very good performance the sixth-placed Dorsten (11-6) lost 73-80 on the road to the second-ranked Hertener Loewen in the West group. He had a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 11 rebounds. Nwabuzor also added and 5 steals in 32 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his first season in pro basketball. It's Nwabuzor's first year with the team. Nwabuzor has very impressive stats this season 20.9ppg, 9.4rpg, 5.3apg and 2.2spg in 17 games. He is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market.

   #4. Marlon Johnson (6'10''-F-94, graduated '17, plays pro in Portugal) was not able to help Imortal in their game against Esgueira / Oli (8-8) in the Portuguese LPB. Johnson recorded only 4 points. The bottom-ranked Imortal was badly defeated 76-58 at home by the much higher-ranked Esgueira / Oli (#5). It was Imortal's eighth consecutive loss in a row. It's Johnson's first season with the team. This year he averages 7.1ppg, 6.4rpg and 1.1bpg.

   #5. Experienced Robert Franklin (6'5''-F-81, graduated '06, plays in Germany) helped Loewen edge the fifth-ranked Coburg (9-9) 83-82 in the German ProB (third division) on Sunday night. He scored 8 points, had 19 boards, handed out 4 passes and blocked 2 shots in 35 minutes. Basketball Loewen Erfurt (9-9) is placed seventh in South group. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Franklin's first season with the team. Franklin has relatively good stats this year 14.2ppg, 11.1rpg, 3.7apg and 2.3spg in 18 games.

   #6. Javier Menendez-Garcia (6'7''-PF-97, graduated '18, currently in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Gijon in their game against Cocinas.com in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Menendez-Garcia did not beat the league record on Sunday evening. He recorded only one point. His team was defeated 88-84. This season Menendez-Garcia averages 6.4ppg and 6.4rpg.
