Chaminade Wins 2014 PacWest Tournament Championship - Mar 8, 2014
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - One year after falling short in the championship game, Chaminade came up big to end its upset run with a title. The Silverswords beat Dominican, 99-83, to claim the 2014 PacWest Men's Basketball Tournament championship and earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Chaminade, the fifth seed, pulled off three upsets in three days for an improbable title run. The Silverswords will find out who they will play in the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced Sunday at 7:30 p.m. PDT. Fans can watch the show live online on NCAA.com. James Harper (6'4''-G-94) scored a career-high 31 points, shooting an incredible 9-for-12 from three-point land. He made all five of his threes in the first half. Tournament MVP Lee Bailey (6'0''-PG) had 14 points, nine assists, five rebounds and two steals. Kiran Shastri (6'6''-G) made five threes of his own and finished with 19 points. Harper and Shastri were both all-tournament selections. Chaminade made 15 threes to finish the tournament with 38 three-pointers at a 53 percent clip. Myles Carrillo (6'0''-PG) and Matt Hayes (6'2''-G) each scored 19 to lead the Penguins. Dominique Taplin (6'0''-PG) added 18 points, seven points and three assists.
