Top West Virginia University alumni playing currently pro basketball

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Mountaineers alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.


   #1. Experienced Joe Alexander (6'8''-C/F-86, graduated '08, plays pro in Turkey) was the major contributor in Besiktas' victory against the closely-ranked Tofas (18-10) 78-73 in the Turkish BSL on Sunday night. He scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 29 minutes. Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul (9-9) is placed fifth in the BSL. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Alexander has relatively good stats this season 10.9ppg, 4.9rpg and 1.1apg. He is a naturalized Israeli.

   #2. John Flowers (6'7''-F-89, graduated '11, plays in Argentina) led La Union to an easy victory against the closely-ranked San Martin Corrientes (19-19) 97-80 in the Argentinian La Liga in Sunday night's game. He scored 21 points, had 8 rebounds and dished 4 assists. La Union Formosa (6-20) is placed seventh in the La Liga. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Flowers has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages 16.1ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg in 37 games he played so far.

   #3. Da'Sean Butler (6'7''-F-88, graduated '10, currently in Israel) contributed to a Hapoel Jerusalem's victory against the seventh-ranked Rishon (14-18) 91-80 in the Israeli Winner League last Thursday. He scored 9 points in 21 minutes. Hapoel Jerusalem (24-8) is placed second in the Winner League. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. This season Butler averages 7.4ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.3apg.

   #4. Gary Browne (6'1''-G-93, graduated '15, plays pro in Israel) led Ironi Hai Motors Nes-Ziona to a victory against the closely-ranked Beer Sheva (15-17) 103-91 in the Israeli Winner League on Sunday night. Browne recorded 11 points and added 4 assists (made all of his six free throws). Ironi Hai Motors Nes-Ziona (14-18) is placed sixth in the Winner League. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is extremely important. Browne has relatively good stats this year 13.9ppg, 5.1rpg, 4.9apg and 1.1spg in 31 games. He is a naturalized Puerto Rican.

   #5. D'Or Fischer (6'11''-C-81, graduated '05, plays in Israel) could not help Bnei Hertzeliya (7-25) in their game last Thursday. Despite his good performance the bottom-ranked Bnei Hertzeliya was edged 74-73 on the road by the much higher-ranked Hapoel Eilat (#4). Fischer recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 14 rebounds. He also added 3 assists in 31 minutes. Fischer's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. This season Fischer averages 8.4ppg, 9.0rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3bpg. He is a naturalized Israeli.

   #6. Jonathan Holton (6'8''-F-91, graduated '16, currently in Argentina) was not able to help Obras Basket in their game against Gimnasia in the Argentinian La Liga. He scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. His team lost 91-96. This year Holton averages 7.1ppg and 6.9rpg in 35 games.
