Best performed former Valparaiso University players in pro basketball in last week games

Every week we bring you a list of the top former Crusaders players who continue their career in pro basketball.


   #1. Shane Hammink (6'7''-G-94, graduated '17, plays pro in Holland) led Groningen to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Rotterdam (8-25) 82-66 in the Dutch Eredivisie last Thursday. He was MVP of the game. Hammink scored 14 points in a mere 16 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. Donar Groningen (21-11) is placed fourth in the Eredivisie. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Hammink averages 7.9ppg, 2.2rpg and 1.4apg in 25 games he played so far.

   #2. Experienced Miguel Ali Berdiel (6'6''-G-83, graduated '06, plays in Puerto Rico) was the major contributor in a Brujos de Guayama's victory against the closely-ranked Cariduros (11-10) 91-83 in the Puerto Rican BSN on Wednesday night. He scored 16 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Brujos de Guayama (11-9) is placed third in the BSN. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. Berdiel has relatively good stats this season 13.3ppg, 4.4rpg, 3.8apg and 1.4spg.

   #3. Alec Peters (6'9''-F-95, graduated '17, currently in Russia), who plays in Russia could not help CSKA (23-7) to beat Baskonia (15-15) in the Euroleague. It was not his best game last Thursday. Peters scored only 2 points in 10 minutes. CSKA lost 68-78 at home to the lower-ranked (#7) Baskonia. It's Peters' first season with the team. This year he averages 5.5ppg and 2.8rpg in 33 games.

   #4. Cory Johnson (6'8''-F/C-88, graduated '11, plays pro in Japan) was not able to help Ehime Orange Vikings (20-40) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the fifth-placed Ehime Orange Vikings (20-40) were edged 71-68 on the road by the higher-ranked Bambitious Nara (#4) in the West group. Johnson recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 3 assists. The Regular Season already ended. Johnson has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages 21.1ppg, 10.1rpg, 2.6apg and 1.2spg.

   #5. Shawn Huff (6'6''-SF-84, graduated '08, plays in Germany) was not able to secure a victory for Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt (12-17) in their game against ratiopharm Ulm (17-12) in the German BBL. He scored 7 points in 19 minutes. Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt was crushed 91-63 in Ulm by the much higher-ranked (#6) ratiopharm. This year Huff averages 7.0ppg and 3.1rpg in 28 games.

   #6. Jubril Adekoya (6'7''-F-94, graduated '17, currently in Spain) contributed to a Carramimbre CBC Valladolid's victory against the closely-ranked Castello 94-83 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Sunday night's game. He scored 9 points and added 3 passes. This season Adekoya averages 4.5ppg and 3.6rpg.

   #7. Dan Oppland (6'8''-F-84, graduated '06, plays pro in Germany) helped MLP Academics Heidelberg win their game against the closely-ranked Nuernberg 67-62 in the German ProA (second division) last Tuesday. Oppland scored 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 27 minutes. Oppland has relatively good stats this year 10.5ppg, 4.9rpg and 1.7apg in 35 games.

   #8. Mohamed Kone (6'11''-C-81, graduated '06, plays in France) couldn't help Jean D'Arc Vichy Clermont Metropole (20-8) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Kone's good performance Jean D'Arc Vichy Clermont Metropole was defeated 92-80 in Nancy by the second-ranked Sluc. He recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 11 rebounds. This season Kone averages 8.6ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.1apg and 1.1spg. He has also French nationality.

   #9. Kevin van Wijk (6'8''-F-89, graduated '13, currently in Spain) couldn't help Rio Ourense Termal in their game against Palencia Baloncesto in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). van Wijk scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. His team was edged 55-52. This year van Wijk averages 6.3ppg and 3.8rpg in 32 games.

   #10. Vashil Fernandez (6'10''-C-92, graduated '16, plays pro in Spain) couldn't help Marin (16-15) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance the fourth-placed Marin was badly defeated 81-62 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Almansa (#3) in the West group. Fernandez was the top scorer with 16 points. He also added 2 blocks. This season Fernandez averages 8.8ppg, 6.6rpg and 2.1bpg. He is a naturalized Jamaican.
