Top Saint Mary's College of California alumni playing currently pro basketball

We bring you last week's top former Gaels players who are currently playing in pro basketball.


   #1. Mickey McConnell (6'0''-PG-89, graduated '11, plays pro in France) led Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez to a 1-point victory over one of league's weakest teams Provence Basket (8-19) 91-90 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA on Friday night. He was MVP of the game. McConnell recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and making 10 passes in 40 minutes. Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez (17-9) is placed fourth in the Jeep ELITE ProA. It's McConnell's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year 12.8ppg, 3.8rpg, 5.6apg and 1.1spg.

   #2. Patrick Mills (6'0''-PG-88, graduated '09, plays in the NBA) led San Antonio Spurs to an easy victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers (19-63) crushing them 112-90 in the NBA in Sunday night's game. He recorded 14 points and added 4 passes. The San Antonio Spurs have 48-34 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the NBA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Mills' seventh year with the team. Mills has relatively good stats this season 9.8ppg, 2.2rpg and 3.0apg in 83 games he played so far.

   #3. Diamon Simpson (6'9''-F-87, graduated '09, currently in Israel), who plays in the Israeli Winner League could not help Rishon (12-15) in their game last Wednesday. Despite his very good performance Rishon was edged 85-84 on the road by the higher-ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona (#6). Simpson was the second best scorer with 15 points. He also added 6 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 25 minutes. This season Simpson averages 9.0ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.1bpg.

   #4. Experienced Ian O'Leary (6'7''-F-86, graduated '09, plays pro in Spain) was not able to help Montakit Fuenlabrada in their game against Burgos (12-15) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. O'Leary scored 9 points. But Montakit Fuenlabrada was crushed 99-76 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked (#11) Burgos. This year O'Leary averages 4.8ppg and 3.5rpg in 25 games. He is a naturalized Irish.

   #5. Joe Rahon (6'2''-G-93, graduated '17, plays in Germany) was not able to secure a victory for Basketball Loewen Braunschweig (8-7) in their game against Bayern Muenchen (26-2) in the German BBL. He recorded 8 points, 4 assists and 4 steals in 26 minutes. Basketball Loewen Braunschweig was defeated 84-73 in Muenchen by the leading Bayern. This season Rahon averages 6.0ppg, 2.8rpg and 4.6apg.

   #6. Earl Rowland (6'3''-PG-83, graduated '05, currently in Spain) is a teammate of previously mentioned Ian O'Leary. But that was another game of his team in Spanish Liga Endesa which we would like to mention. Rowland couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Montakit Fuenlabrada in their game against Gran Canaria. He scored 6 points. His team lost 88-93. This year Rowland averages 8.9ppg, 2.4rpg and 3.8apg in eight games. He is a naturalized Bulgarian.

   #7. Clint Steindl (6'7''-F/G-89, graduated '12, plays pro in Australia) led Perry Lakes Hawks to a victory over the leader Wanneroo 102-94 in the Australian State League (second division) on Saturday night. He was MVP of the game. Steindl recorded 30 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists in 36 minutes. Steindl has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages 24.8ppg, 3.5rpg and 2.3apg.

   #8. Calvin Hermanson (6'6''-F-94, graduated '18, plays in Spain) was the main contributor in a Chocalates Trapa Palencia's victory against the league outsider Araberri 94-82 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Saturday night's game. Hermanson was MVP of the game. He recorded 18 points. Hermanson has relatively good stats this year 10.3ppg and 1.6rpg in 30 games.

   #9. Desmond Simmons (6'6''-F-92, graduated '15, currently in Portugal) contributed to a 3-point Lusitania's victory against the fourth-ranked Ovarense 72-69 in the Portuguese LPB last Sunday. Simmons scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 37 minutes. Simmons has relatively good stats this season 12.9ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.9apg and 1.2spg.

   #10. Emmett Naar (6'1''-G-94, graduated '18, plays pro in New Zealand) couldn't help Canterbury Rams in their game against Sharks in the New Zealand NBL. Naar recorded 9 points and added 6 assists. His team were edged 95-92. Naar has relatively good stats this year 12.9ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.9apg and 1.2spg in 27 games.
