Top Florida International University alumni playing currently pro basketball

Every week we bring you a list of the top former Golden Panthers players who continue their career in pro basketball.


   #1. Michael Kessens (6'9''-F-91, graduated '17, plays pro in Germany) led Rasta Vechta to an easy victory against the closely-ranked EWE Baskets (22-5) 100-85 in the German BBL in Saturday night's game. He scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in a mere 17 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Kessens' second season in pro basketball. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Rasta Vechta (20-7) is placed third in the BBL. This year Kessens averages 7.7ppg and 4.2rpg in 18 games he played so far. He has also German passport.

   #2. DeJuan Wright (6'3''-G-88, graduated '12, plays in Georgia) could not help Kutaisi in their last game on Friday. Despite Wright's very good performance the league leader Kutaisi was defeated 97-89 on the road by the lower-ranked Batumi (#7). He was the top scorer with 22 points. Wright also added 5 rebounds and dished 6 assists. Wright has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages 19.1ppg, 5.1rpg, 3.8apg and 2.6spg.

   #3. Adrian Diaz (6'10''-F/C-93, graduated '16, currently in Finland) was the major contributor in a Joensuun Kataja Basket's victory against the league outsider Ura Basket (9-30) crushing them 112-87 in the Finnish Korisliiga on Saturday night. Diaz scored 25 points and blocked 3 shots in 27 minutes; not bad, considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. Joensuun Kataja Basket (23-16) is placed fourth in the Korisliiga. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended. Diaz has relatively good stats this year 13.9ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.5apg, 1.4bpg and 1.2spg in 23 games. He is a naturalized Cuban. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #4. Gabriel Belardo (6'2''-G-89, graduated '13, plays pro in Puerto Rico) was not able to help Cariduros de Fajardo (7-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Belardo's very good performance Cariduros de Fajardo was defeated 101-95 in Mayaguez by the league outsider Indios (#9). He was the second best scorer with 21 points. Belardo also added 7 boards, dished 8 assists and stole 3 balls. Belardo has relatively good stats this season 10.6ppg, 3.3rpg, 3.6apg and 1.4spg. He attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

   #5. Daviyon Draper (6'7''-F-94, graduated '16, plays in Argentina) led Estudiantes Concordia to a victory over the 17th-ranked Quilmes MP (9-19) crushing them 99-75 in the Argentinian La Liga last Friday. Draper was MVP of the game. He recorded 21 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 31 minutes. Estudiantes Concordia (16-13) is placed eighth in the La Liga. It's Draper's first season with the team. Draper has very impressive stats this year 15.1ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.3apg in 27 games.

   #6. Experienced Johwen Villegas (6'4''-F-85, graduated '07, currently in Puerto Rico), who plays in the Puerto Rican BSN was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Capitanes de Arecibo (7-9) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Villegas' good performance Capitanes de Arecibo was defeated 86-76 in Fajardo by the higher-ranked Cariduros (#5). He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Villegas also added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. This season he averages 9.7ppg, 2.2rpg and 2.1apg.

   #7. Eric Nottage (6'3''-G-94, graduated '17, plays pro in Georgia) contributed to Delta's victory against the closely-ranked TSU-Hyundai 90-78 in a derby game in the Georgian Superleague in Saturday night's game. He recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists in 29 minutes. Nottage has relatively good stats this year 14.6ppg, 5.7rpg, 4.6apg and 2.0spg in seven games. Nottage attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

   #8. Rakeem Buckles (6'7''-F-90, graduated '14, plays in France) couldn't help Lille Metropole Basket (10-16) in their last game on Friday. Despite Buckles' very good performance Lille Metropole Basket was defeated 83-78 in Bischwiller by the higher-ranked Gries/Oberhoffen (#7). He was the top scorer with 22 points. Buckles also added 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists. He has relatively good stats this season 11.6ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3spg.

   #9. Carlos Arroyo (6'2''-PG-79, graduated '01, currently in Puerto Rico), who plays in the Puerto Rican BSN couldn't help Leones de Ponce (7-5) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Leones de Ponce lost 81-95 in Coamo to the second-ranked Santeros. Arroyo was the top scorer with 18 points. He also added 8 assists in 32 minutes. Arroyo has relatively good stats this year 10.7ppg, 2.6rpg and 11.3apg in 12 games.

   #10. Facundo Giorgi (6'9''-PF-85, graduated '07, plays pro in Argentina) managed to help Comunicaciones Mercedes to win against the league leader Atenas 86-73 in the Argentinian La Liga in Tuesday night's game. He scored only 3 points. This season Giorgi averages 6.8ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.4apg.
