Markus Howard (5'9''-G-99) scored 40 of his 45 points in the second half to help carry #20 Marquette past #14 Buffalo 103-85 Friday night. At one point in the second half Howard scored 25 straight points as the Golden Eagles opened up 20 point lead in the final minutes of the game. Jeremy Harris (6'7''-G-96) led Buffalo with 22 points while Dontay Caruthers (6'1''-G-95) added 20 off the bench. CJ Massinburg (6'3''-G-97) chipped in with 18 points. Nick Perkins (6'8''-F-96) struggled from the floor, going 1-for-9, and had just seven points. Tied at 49 in the second half, Caruthers put UB on top 52-49 with 15:05 to play. But, that's when Howard started to heat up as he helped spark a 16-3 run as Marquette opened up a 65-55 lead. Caruthers would be instrumental in pulling the Bulls back within three, hitting a transition layup to make it a 67-64 game. Perkins would hit a free throw to get within two before Howard took over. The Bulls are off for the holidays and will be back on the court Saturday, Dec., 29th when they square off against Big 4 Rival Canisius.

Zion Williamson (6'8''-F-00) took on 7-foot-6 Tacko Fall at the end and won. So did top-seeded Duke - barely - when two last-ditch shots by UCF rolled off the rim. Williamson had 32 points and helped rally the Blue Devils from behind in the final minute for a 77-76 victory Sunday to reach the Sweet 16. Aubrey Dawkins (6'6''-G/F-95) finished with 32 points for the Knights, but his tip-in try just missed in the final seconds. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski "talks a lot about the basketball gods...   [read more]
