Ilker Er
There is not so many Turkish players in NCAA. University of Maine small forward Ilker Er (199-G-94) is one of them. After 2 years JUCO experience in San Jacinto, his season with University of Maine is impressive so far. He averaged 10.1 points and 4 rebound in 19.7 mins. He is given exclusive interview to Eurobasket.com

You made a brave decision and opted to continue your basketball career in college. After all 3 years, are you happy with your decision?
Of course I am happy with my decision. I could also choose to stay in Turkey but I chased my dreams and I decided to play college basketball.

Going to USA for college is becoming a trend in Turkey for young players. What is your suggestion for them?
If they believe that they can handle school and basketball together, I am sure that they can play in Ncaa but I have to admit that it is not easy and they need to be ready not only physically but also mentally.

You spent two years in JUCO and got your chance to play for Maine. How do you feel, are you satisfied with your performance?
Living in Houston for 2 years was a great experience for me. Every player dreams of getting an offer from a Division 1 school in which the competition is extremely hard. I believe that such an environment made me a better player. I am also happy to be here in Maine. I am working hard each day and just focusing myself on basketball.

Duke is one of well known college in Turkey and you played a great game against Duke, scored 20 pts in just 13 attempt. How did game against Duke effect your self confidence?
Duke game was a great experience for me. That was my dream to play against Coach K. During summer time when I'm working out, I was dreaming of playing against Duke and I believe that I performed well. I got no fear and it doesn't matter who I am playing against.

Your season is good so far but Maine is struggling, won only 4 games out of 14 games. Should it be worrying?
Of course, losing a game is not a good feeling. When we lose a game, I can't even go to sleep easily because I can't get the game out of my head. But in the end, we must forget about defeat and focus on the next game. I also believe that we will surprise a lot of people this year.

You have one more year in college. What is your plan for professional career?
I can't say anything about the future but I believe that I have the potential to face the best players. Playing for my national team is also one of my biggest dreams. For now, the best thing to do is to keep playing my best and working hard

I believe most of people who read this interview do not know who lker Er is as a player. Which players are best fit for you to understand who lker Er is?
As being a shooter myself, I mostly watch the NBA or Euroleage players in my position. I admire a lot of players but If I have to pick some, I would say Klay Thompson (201-G-90, college: Washington St.) and J.J. Redick (193-G-84, college: Duke). I also know that I have to work so hard to be like them.

RJ Barrett leads No. 1 Duke past No. 4 Virginia 72-70 - 10 hours ago
No. 1 Duke and fourth-ranked Virginia kept trading baskets - and the lead - down the stretch of another classic at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Here's the difference: The Blue Devils had R.J. Barrett Jr. (6'7''-F-00), Zion Williamson (6'7''-F-00) and a defense that -even without key on-the-ball defender Tre Jones- flipped the script on the Cavaliers. R.J. Barrett Jr. scored 30 points, Williamson had 27 and Duke gave Virginia its first loss of the season by beating the Cavaliers 72-70 on Saturd...   [read more]
