The St. John's Edge received a pair of clutch free throws from Glen Davis (6'9''-F-86, college: LSU) with five seconds left on the clock to secure a 112-111 win over the KW Titans in a thrilling National Basketball League of Canada playoff game Monday night at Mile One Centre. The win gives the Edge a 2-0 lead on the Titans in the best-of-seven Central Division final heading to Kitchener, Ont. for Games 3 and 4 Friday and Sunday, and possibly Game 5 next Tuesday. While the Edge have a comfortable two-game lead in the series, the truth of the matter is they were lucky to pull this one out Monday in front of 4,327 fans. Despite leading by 20 points, 102-82, with 5:43 left in regulation time, the Edge needed last-second heroics to register the win. Up 58-44 at the half and 83-69 with the final 12 minutes of play in the fourth quarter, the visiting Titans went on a 14-point run late in the game, 12 of those coming on three-point shots, to make it 102-96. With just under a minute left, the Titans came to within six points of the Edge on an Ashton Smith (6'2''-G-89, college: Indiana, PA) three-pointer, and Kitchener picked away, eventually taking its first lead since the first quarter, 111-110, on a Smith trey with nine ticks left on the clock. But with five seconds remaining, Flenard Whitfield (6'7''-F-90, college: W.Michigan) fouled, sending Davis to the line and he was clutch with two free throws, sending the 4,327 hometown faithful home happy. It was a testy affair, with the Titans nabbed for three technical fouls and the Edge one, by Carl English (6'5''-G-81, college: Hawaii). English again led the Edge with 22 points. Davis had 18, Murphy Burnatowski (6'7''-PF-91, college: Colgate) with 17 and Lee with 15. Smith scored 25 points for the Titans.

Edge Fight Until Final Buzzer, But Drop Game 4 as Moncton Magic Claim Title - 3 days ago
The St. John's Edge played until the final buzzer on Thursday night, giving the 4,000 plus fans at Mile One Centre every bit of what they had left. Unfortunately, it was not to be as the Moncton Magic claimed the title of Champions for the 2018-19 NBL Canada season, winning by a score of 130-120. The Edge had a big hill to climb in this series as they were down 3 games to none coming into this one. They would have reinforcements for this game as the team activated Shaquille Keith just a d...   [read more]

Edge Cannot Hang On In Fourth, Drop Game 3 to Magic - 6 days ago
The St. John's Edge were back at home and looking to get back into the series against the Moncton Magic on Monday night at Mile One Centre. The Edge fought hard all game and held the lead going into the fourth quarter, but Moncton would go on a 14-0 run to start the quarter and complete the comeback, taking Game 3 by a score of 103-93. It has been a tough couple of games leading into this one for the Edge. They were victims of a Moncton comeback in Game 1 and then had the same result in G...   [read more]

Edge Fight But Cannot Hold on in Game 2 - 8 days ago
The St. John's Edge were looking to even the Best of Seven NBL Canada Finals on Saturday night in Moncton, NB. After a tough first half the Edge could not hold on near the end as they dropped Game 2 to the Magic by a score of 107-100. It was a positive sight when Glen Davis (6'9''-F-86, college: LSU) returned to the Edge lineup for Game 2 of the series. With the influx of scoring from Davis and a reinvigorated team after two days off, it looked as though the Edge had the right pieces to t...   [read more]
