Jaylen Bland
The Sudbury Five scored a season-high 133 points on Sunday, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Cape Breton Highlanders, as the Sudbury boys dropped a 138-133 decision. With the loss, the Five's record sits at 18-17, putting them in fourth place in the Central Division with just five games left in the regular season. The team got a boost on Sunday in Cape Breton, as Jaylen Bland (6'3''-G-93, college: Cal-Riverside) returned from an injury that sidelined him for nearly a month. Bland wasted no time making an impact, leading all scorers with 34 points. Braylon Rayson (5'9''-PG-94, college: Cent.Michigan) added another strong performance to his season, dropping 31 points and adding nine assists. The Five stormed out of the gates early Sunday, grabbing a 41-29 lead after just one quarter of play. Sudbury would add another 36 points in the second quarter and took a 77-65 lead into halftime. The Highlanders regrouped at the break however, and mounted a charge in the second half, closing the gap to just three points, trailing the Five 106-103 with one quarter to play in the game. Sudbury was unable to stave off the Highlanders comeback, as the home team rallied for 35 points in the fourth quarter while holding Sudbury to just 27 points and walking away with a five-point victory. The Five are back in action Tuesday as they take on the league-leading Moncton Magic. The Five will close out their east coast road swing on Thursday against the Island Storm, before returning home to Sudbury for their final three games of the regular season.

The St. John's Edge played until the final buzzer on Thursday night, giving the 4,000 plus fans at Mile One Centre every bit of what they had left. Unfortunately, it was not to be as the Moncton Magic claimed the title of Champions for the 2018-19 NBL Canada season, winning by a score of 130-120. The Edge had a big hill to climb in this series as they were down 3 games to none coming into this one. They would have reinforcements for this game as the team activated Shaquille Keith just a d...   [read more]

Edge Cannot Hang On In Fourth, Drop Game 3 to Magic - 5 days ago
The St. John's Edge were back at home and looking to get back into the series against the Moncton Magic on Monday night at Mile One Centre. The Edge fought hard all game and held the lead going into the fourth quarter, but Moncton would go on a 14-0 run to start the quarter and complete the comeback, taking Game 3 by a score of 103-93. It has been a tough couple of games leading into this one for the Edge. They were victims of a Moncton comeback in Game 1 and then had the same result in G...   [read more]

Edge Fight But Cannot Hold on in Game 2 - 7 days ago
The St. John's Edge were looking to even the Best of Seven NBL Canada Finals on Saturday night in Moncton, NB. After a tough first half the Edge could not hold on near the end as they dropped Game 2 to the Magic by a score of 107-100. It was a positive sight when Glen Davis (6'9''-F-86, college: LSU) returned to the Edge lineup for Game 2 of the series. With the influx of scoring from Davis and a reinvigorated team after two days off, it looked as though the Edge had the right pieces to t...   [read more]
