Patience was a virtue for the Halifax Hurricane's offence after they came back from a 10-point deficit to beat the Saint John Riptide 98-82 at Harbour Station on Wednesday night for their seventh consecutive victory. The Hurricanes offence struggled to get going for most of the first half, scoring just 13 in the opening quarter. Despite early foul trouble, Halifax battled back cut the Riptide lead to 2 points at halftime. In the third quarter, led by Mike Poole (6'5''-F-92, college: Iona), Halifax outscored the Riptide by 12 points, allowing them to cruise to finish in the fourth. Poole, the Hurricanes go-to player on both ends of the floor for much of this season, scored a game-high 20 points in the win to go with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Nine of his points came just in the third quarter. He shot a red-hot 61 per cent from the floor and hit three of five from deep to power the Hurricanes offence. Clifford Clinkscales (6'0''-PG-84, college: DePaul) also came alive in the third, hitting three from beyond the arc. He finished with nine points and six assists. The Hurricanes bench scored an impressive 47 points, led by Terry Thomas with 19, while also grabbing seven rebounds and Malcolm Duvivier (6'3''-G-95, college: Akron, agency: Mansfield and Associates) with 15 points, 12 of which came in the fourth, to go with four assists in 25 minutes. After running through the KW Titans on March 23rd, the Moncton Magic follow it up by coming back and beating the Windsor Express in O...   [read more]
