Clifford Clinkscales (6'0''-PG-84, college: De Paul) dished out 18 of the Halifax Hurricanes 28 assists on Wednesday night, setting an NBLC record for Halifax franchises and setting the table for the 127-116 win over the Windsor Express at the at the WFCU Centre. Halifax got points on the board early, posting a 38-point first quarter, but saw their double-digit lead shrink to single digits by half-time. Mike Poole (6'5''-F-92, college: Iona) led the Hurricanes offence early, scoring 10 in the opening two quarters and finishing with 20 for the night. It was a back-and-forth battle the rest of the way as the Express and Hurricanes exchanged leads multiples times in an intense and physical second half of basketball. The Hurricanes hopes at snapping their four-game losing streak were kept alive by the scorching-hot shooting of Joel Kindred (6'4''-G-91, college: St.Augustine), who had a game-high 27 points on 7-13 shooting, while continuing his league-best average from three-point range, sinking 4-7 from deep and hitting nine of his 10 free throws. Down low, it was Jordan Washington (6'8''-F-93, college: Iona, agency: Interperformances) off the bench, who shot a super-efficient 75 per cent from the floor for 24 points to go with nine rebounds. Tyrone Watson (6'5''-PF-90, college: N.Mexico St.) also provided late-game stability off the bench and kept the Hurricanes offence alive in the final minutes of the game. He netted 12 points in the win and pulled down five rebounds. To go with his 18 assists, Clifford Clinkscales also scored nine points in the victory, including two from deep. The Hurricanes travel to London, ON next for an NBLC Finals rematch against the London Lightning on Thursday, Dec. 20. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. AST. Check HalifaxHurricanes.ca or follow the team on social media for details on how to catch that game live online. The Hurricanes will return home to Scotiabank Centre in Halifax on Friday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. to host the Cape Breton Highlanders for Noise Night where the first 1,000 fans will a free noisemaker. Then on Sunday, Dec. 30, they will host the St. John's Edge at 2 p.m. for Family Fun Zone, which opens at 1 p.m. At halftime, the Hurricanes will feature a Paper Airplane Toss for a chance to win $500 cash. The Hurricanes will face some new competition that afternoon with the St. John's Edge, who recently signed former NBA Champion for the Boston Celtics, Glen "Big Baby" Davis.

Third straight loss has Bolt's coach at a loss - 2 days ago
Coach Elliott Etherington was at his wit's end after the London Lightning dropped their third straight game, falling 107-98 to the Saint John Riptide Sunday at Budweiser Gardens. The exasperated coach increasingly is growing tired of explaining how the Lightning keep losing in the exact same way. The Bolts (8-11), who are in last place in the National Basketball League of Canada's Central Division, lost their previous two games in overtime, 122-119 Saturday night to the Express in Windsor...   [read more]

Magic spoil Thomas's Hurricanes debut - 3 days ago
Most eyes were on Halifax Hurricanes newcomer Terry Thomas (6'4''-G/F-91, college: Ottawa) at Scotiabank Centre. But it was his former NBL Canada team which stole the show Saturday night. The Moncton Magic (13-7) battled back from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter and pulled out a thrilling 114-111 overtime victory for their fifth win in as many tries over the Hurricanes (9-9). It was the first game in a Halifax uniform for East Preston's Thomas, the former Magic guard who joined t...   [read more]

Isaiah Johnson joins Sudbury Five - 4 days ago
ISAIAH JOHNSON Sudbury Five (NBL Canada) agreed terms with 24-year old American center Isaiah Johnson (208-134kg-94, college: Akron). He played last summer at Illinois BC (The Basketball Tournament) in the U.S. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Johnson's team won MAC East Division Regular Season for two years in a row (2016 and 2017). He was also voted All-MAC Player of the Year and All-MAC 1st Team in 2016 and 2017 at his college time. Johnson attended Uni...   [read more]
