The St. John's Edge were victorious in their first meeting of the season with the expansion Sudbury Five by a score of 118-98 at Mile One Centre on Tuesday night. The match-up on paper was one where both teams had a chance to come out on top, it was expected that this game would be a nail-biter right until the final minutes. However, it was not. The Edge took control early in the game opening the first quarter on a 6-0 run and continuing to push to take a 10-point lead into the second quarter where they continued the onslaught. At the half, the Edge were in the lead by 17 points and Sudbury would have to answer early in the second half to try and make a comeback (which they did earlier in the season against the Windsor Express). On this night the comeback was not to be, as the St. John's Edge would stretch their lead to as big as 30 points in the fourth quarter. On the night the Edge shot 42% from three-point range and 46% from the field. The key's in tonight's win seemed to be limiting the leading scorer in the league, Braylon Rayson, and boxing out the league's leading rebounder, Grandy Glaze (6'9''-F-92, college: Grand Canyon). The Edge played relentless defense all night, holding Sudbury below 100 points for just the second time all season. In the post, Grandy Glaze was met by Keith Wright (6'8''-F-89, college: Harvard) Jr. and Glen 'Big Baby' Davis who played tough and did not give an inch when Glaze tried to make his way to the hoop. The offence for the Edge was led for the second game in a row by Desmond Lee (6'4''-G-90, college: NC State). Lee dropped 26 points to go along with 6 rebounds in the 20-point win on Tuesday night. The Edge had eight players score in double digits. On the boards, Obinna Oleka (6'7''-PF-93, college: Arizona St.) pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds to record his second double-double in just a handful of games. Keith Wright Jr. also recorded a double-double for the Edge, with 10 points and 11 rebounds. While Glen 'Big Baby' Davis dropped 10 points of his own, on a night that saw him play extended minutes in comparison to his first two games with the team.

Edge Fight Until Final Buzzer, But Drop Game 4 as Moncton Magic Claim Title - 30 days ago
The St. John's Edge played until the final buzzer on Thursday night, giving the 4,000 plus fans at Mile One Centre every bit of what they had left. Unfortunately, it was not to be as the Moncton Magic claimed the title of Champions for the 2018-19 NBL Canada season, winning by a score of 130-120. The Edge had a big hill to climb in this series as they were down 3 games to none coming into this one. They would have reinforcements for this game as the team activated Shaquille Keith just a d...   [read more]

Edge Cannot Hang On In Fourth, Drop Game 3 to Magic - 1 month ago
The St. John's Edge were back at home and looking to get back into the series against the Moncton Magic on Monday night at Mile One Centre. The Edge fought hard all game and held the lead going into the fourth quarter, but Moncton would go on a 14-0 run to start the quarter and complete the comeback, taking Game 3 by a score of 103-93. It has been a tough couple of games leading into this one for the Edge. They were victims of a Moncton comeback in Game 1 and then had the same result in G...   [read more]
