Tut Ruach
The Power made history with a 116-109 game 3 victory over the defending champion Windsor Express after losing the first two games of the series in Windsor. Mississauga's Tut Ruach (6'2''-PG-85) dropped a NBL Canada single-game record 48 points and added seven rebounds and five assists to earn the Peak Performer of the Game. Jordan Weidner (6'2''-G, college: Ind.Wesleyan) continued his clutch playoff streak with 26 points and six assists. The Power rode the playoff atmosphere to a commanding 9-2 lead in the first four minutes but Windsor heated up to tie the game at 11 points. Mississauga then shut down the Express on three plays for the Power to distance themselves from the Express and keep their train at the station. Guards Tut Ruach and Jabs Newby combined for eight points to spark a strong run and 20-13 lead. Ruach had the hot hand but Windsor kept finding an answer and went 3-for-3 in their next three possessions. But Mississauga dealt Windsor a one-two punch with a huge block from forward Marcus Capers (6'4''-G-89, college: Washington St.) that led to a long two for guard Malcolm Grant. Mississauga finished the quarter on top with a 30-21 lead. Windsor didn't know what hit them when Capers threw down a two handed dunk that got the second quarter going. It didn't take much longer for Capers to throw down another one to clobber the Express to a 40-22 deficit, making it Mississauga's largest lead of the game. But Windsor didn't let the Power forget who the defending champions are and went on a 9-2 run to creep back into the game. Power centre Mike Allison (6'9''-C/F-90, college: Maine) rose up with a pair of contested put backs and the Power maintained their solid defence to take a 57-43 lead into halftime. By the end of the half Mississauga scored 14 points off of 10 Windsor turnovers and were outrebounding the Express 22-15. It took a while for Mississauga to find their original calmness and the opening minutes of the half saw some rushed shots from the home team. The Express capitalized and closed the gap 60-51, but once the Power slowed down they found their edge. Newby cut through the paint for a strong layup and Ruach stuck it to Windsor with a three ball. The defending champs kept fighting and came as close as nine points but Ruach and Grant kept the Express on their toes with another round of hot shooting. The Power held onto an 82-70 lead at the buzzer. The Express were back on track and came within five points of the Power's 85 point bench mark. On the other end Mississauga's defence made some adjustments and Capers notched his fourth block of the game and sent guard Jordan Weidner on a fast break to draw a Windsor foul. The Power found their second wind thanks to Ruach's third straight three pointer and took off to a 98-85 lead with six and a half minutes to go. Weidner stayed aggressive in the dying minutes and went to the line 8 times, converting on 7 attempts to seal the 116-109 victory for the Power. The Power will be back at the Hershey Centre on Tuesday, March 17th at 7:30pm for game 4 against the Express.
