Bosnia and Herzegovina 2019 NBA Draft Prospects!

Four years ago this would have been an impressive list of basketball prospects. Njegos Sikiras was dominating the Jordan Brand Classic, impressing those in attendance even more than his teammate Dzanan Musa and earning an invite to the New York event where was MVP. Darko Bajo too was invited over Dzanan Musa to New York and he was the slam dunk champion, Borisa Simanic was invited to the Nike Hoop Summit where he impressed those in attendance and those who have followed him for over six years. Dalibor Ilic was also another top prospect from BiH who was considered a possible first round pick. Add in Samir Sehic who was a top 100 recruit coming out of High School in the US and Nikola Popovic who has improved every year in the NCAA and put together a terrific season.

However many on this list have failed to develop or progress as expected and most will likely withdraw their name before the draft, some are likely to remain in and only a couple have a serious chance at getting drafted…

Njegos Sikiras (205-F-99): Sikiras was once one of the brightest young starts in Europe, after a series of injuries and a contract dispute that kept him off the court for almost a year his development has plateaued the last few years. He has a very good athletic profile, he can shoot from the outside and handle the ball but he hasn't stayed healthy and he hasn't improved his play since winning gold with the BiH U16 team. The last two seasons he just hasn't established himself as an elite level performer against inferior competition. This season he played in 33 games in Spain and averaged 8.4ppg 5.1rbpg while shooting 47.1% from two and 73.7% from the FT line. His ball handling isn't good enough for an elite level three and he doesn't rebound or score well enough for a high impact four. He is unlikely to get drafted and will likely withdraw his name. He needs to spend a summer working on his outside shooting and ball handling and hope for a breakout campaign next season.

Darko Bajo (209-F-99, agency: BeoBasket): Another player with an excellent physical profile, he doesn't play like a natural, fluid athlete but he is a better athlete than most realize. He won the dunk contest at the Jordan Brand Classics camp a few years ago and that set up some unrealistic expectations. He does a lot well but nothing special and is too passive to make a major, consistent impact. He can shoot and score in the paint or out to three but his handles aren't good and he just isn't an assertive, aggressive player. He played in three competitions this year and averaged 9ppg and 5.2rbpg in Croatia but didn't make a major impact. He's grown to 209cm and has good size and athleticism but is another player on this list that needs to put it all together. He is unlikely to be drafted if he keeps his name in the draft.

Borisa Simanic (209-F-98, agency: BeoBasket): Its hard to believe he just turned 21. The 210cm Simanic has been on the radar of scouts for over 7 years now and has slowly gotten better over time. He's another player on this list with an excellent skill set and athleticism who hasn't put it all together to become a great player. He is however the likeliest to get drafted player on this list. He's had the chance to display his talent in a variety of settings and competitions and he has gotten better incrementally year after year. He played in three competitions as well and averaged 7ppg 3.6rbpg in the ABA league in less than 20mpg.

Dalibor Ilic (202-F-00): Its a repeat theme for these players so far, skilled, athletic and inconsistent and Ilic is no different. He's an excellent athlete, can handle and shoot and has yet to put it all together. He played well for Igokea in the ABA League before getting a loan to Mega Bmax in Serbia to finish the season. Ilic played in 21 ABA league games averaging 14mpg 4.4ppg 4.1rbpg and shooting 62/45/81. He is so skilled and athletic but he plays a bit mechanical and is another player that needs to be more aggressive in getting his shot. He has a minimal chance to get drafted if he decides to remain in this season.

Nikola Popovic (211-F-97): Popovic had a productive year for Boston College in the NCAA. He has gotten incrementally better yer after year and took a big step forward this season. He would benefit from another year in college but he seems likely to turn pro, even if it means a return to Europe for him. He played in 28 games and averaged 30mpg 14.5ppg 7.2rbpg 1.1aspg while shooting 57/26/71. He lacks the athletic profile to play in the NBA and is unlikely to be drafted.

Samir Sehic (206-F-96) Sehic is in a similar position as Popovic, productive college player who has a limited upside and is unlikely to be drafted. He is really an undersized center and reminds me a bit of former Michigan St player Paul Davis who had a very productive European career. He is very fundamentally sound, can hit an open jumper, rebound and has a high basketball IQ. He was coached by former NBA player, coach and GM Mike Dunleavy which helped him tremendously after coming to Tulane. He had a very good season for Tulane averaging 12.4ppg 7.7rbpg while shooting 53/30/71. He lacks the athletic profile of a modern NBA player to play in the NBA and is unlikely to be drafted.

Sources: Kawhi Leonard to decline option and will become a free agent; Raptors the favorites to land him (video) - 11 hours ago
Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard (6'7''-F-91, college: San Diego St.) will decline his 2019-20 player option worth $21.3 million to become an unrestricted free agent, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
