The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (10-9) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 109-103 win over the Greensboro Swarm (9-9) on the final day of the 2018 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase. In the victory, guard Dakarai Tucker (6'5''-F-94, college: Utah) finished with a game-high 27 points and nine rebounds. With 36 seconds left and his team clinging to a two-point lead, Tucker nailed a critical three-pointer to help secure the victory. Tucker made eight three-pointers on 57 percent shooting in the ballgame. Four of Rio Grande Valley's starters reached double figures in Saturday's contest. Guard Michael Frazier added 17 points and eight rebounds and guard Gary Payton II (6'3''-G-92, college: Oregon St.) II posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the winning effort. Reserves Chris Walker (6'10''-PF-94, college: Florida) and Tim Bond (6'7''-SG-95, college: E.Michigan) also contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively. The Vipers split their Showcase games and improved to 10-9 overall. The Swarm also had four starters reach double figures. Two-way player Joe Chealey (6'3''-G-95, college: Charleston) netted 23 points and six assists while fellow two-way player J.P. Macura (6'5''-G-95, college: Xavier) finished with 22 points and seven rebounds. Former Vipers standout Chinanu Onuaku recorded a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds for the Swarm, and center Luke Petrasek also had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Jaylen Barford provided a spark off the bench with 17 points in 24 minutes. The Swam saw their five-game winning streak snap and are now 9-9 on the season. For the Vipers, Michael Frazier totals 17 points and 8 rebounds. Chris Walker and Gary Payton II II each added 14 points in the win. Payton added a team-high 12 rebounds and nine steals. The Vipers will head home for their next game, when they host the Texas Legends at 7 p.m. Thursday.
