Stan Okoye (6'6''-G/F-91, college: VMI) was one of the pleasant surprises in Italy where he averaged 15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. His 38.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc makes him a versatile offensive threat. Overall, Okoye's combination of size and skill makes him one of the more intriguing forwards in Europe. Stan thanks for talking to eurobasket.com

It seems like the fans in Openjobmetis Varese love you. How nice is it to be a fan favorite?
The fans this season were great. Having played in Openjobmetis Varese before the fans knew me already. Coming back to this environment was love, their intensity at home gave me so much energy.

How would you describe what this season has meant to you?
This was a very special season for me. Coming in I just wanted to prove that I belonged in a league like this. I feel like I was able to do a little more than that with the help of the coaching staff and my teammates. Later on in my career I hope to look at this season as the season that changed my career/life.

To somebody who hasn't seen you play before, how would you describe your game to them?
I would say my game is built on energy, trying to take advantage of my athleticism by creating extra possessions through rebounding. I'm someone that can do a little bit of everything, shooting, slashing, etc. I've always been labeled as a 'tweener', a guy without a position. So I've learned to embrace that.

How would you describe your roots and decision to attend VMI?
I'm of Nigerian descent. My parents are both from Nigeria. Their culture has shaped me in many ways. VMI was a place where I felt that I could learn a lot as a young adult off the court and also receive a good education. On the court I knew I would have a lot of freedom, we played a high-paced system that allowed me to adjust pretty quickly to the college level.

Where do you see yourself 3 years from now?
3 years from now I see myself in my prime, playing at one of the best leagues in the world, Euroleague or better.

Who's been the biggest influence on your basketball career?
My biggest influence has been my family. They were my first fans, my first critics, and the people that I do everything in hopes to make them happy and proud.

What is your goal for the next season?
My goal is to see how this summer goes and to be in a position where I am able to further display my talents. Wherever I play I want to win a championship!
