Sophomore Adam Rees (6'4''-G/F) notched a new career-high with 29 points as he led the Sagehens to their first win of the season with a 97-74 win over non-conference opponent LIFE Pacific on Tuesday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium. With the win, the Sagehens improve to 1-5 overall. The Sagehens were led by Rees who went perfect on the night going 10-10 from the floor and 6-6 from beyond the arc. The only miss of the night for Rees was from the free-throw line where he was 3-4 from the stripe. Junior Daniel Rosenbaum (6'4''-G) tallied 20 points for the Sagehens while sophomore Micah Elan (6'2''-G) also was in double digits with 14 points and seven assists. Pacific came out and took an early lead to start the game as they opened up on a 10-5 run in the first four minutes of the game, but the Sagehens responded with an explosion of offense as they sparked a 25-2 run capped out by a pair of Elan free-throws to take a 30-12 lead midway through the first half. The Warriors tried to chip away at the Sagehens' lead but Pomona-Pitzer played a near perfect first half shooting 69% from the field and 64.3% from three-point range as they tallied a season-high 59 points in the first half to take a 59-36 lead heading into halftime. Pomona-Pitzer cooled off offensively in the second half but still maintained their first-half lead over the Warriors. Rees continued his streak of perfect shots into the second half as he went 3-3 from the floor with nine points before exiting the game with 3:13 to go to end his spectacular performance. The Sagehens took their largest lead of the night with 4:47 to play as they went up 90-61 after a layup by James Kelbert (6'3''-G/F-98). The Warriors fought back late in the game but the damage was already done by the Sagehens as they cruised to a 97-74 win at home. Courtesy of: sagehens.com

With a 19-6 season mark and a 7-3 record in GCAC play, the Talladega Tornadoes men's basketball team was looking to both get the season sweep on Xavier and improve upon their already-strong conference standing when they traveled to take on the Xavier Gold Rush on Monday night. The men's squad had been out of game action since last Monday when they defeated #6 nationally ranked Tougaloo. The Tornadoes hoped to shake off the dust early on in this contest and grab another conference win. Fueled by not one, not two, but three double-digit scorers, Talladega fought hard to the victory over Xavier by a final score of 66-65. The first half progressed slowly for Talladega as the team had some struggles in the opening 20 minutes. The Tornadoes would eventually go into half time trailing Xavier 34-31. TC was fueled by the efforts of several players: Dondre Alexander (6'3''-G) paced the team with nine points. The rebound game was owned by Alexander and Charles Shaw (6'0''-PG), who each racked up three in the first half. Already trailing by three points coming out of the halftime break, the Tornadoes put their foot on the gas and fought even harder to pass by the Gold Rush in the second half. The TC lead at one point grew to four late in regulation, as their 66-65 win solidified their 20th win of the year, and 8th in eleven total conference games. "Tonight is a great example of how far this team has come this year," said Head Coach Chris Wright. "We didn't play well for most of the game, but we stayed together and gutted this one out. The tougher team usually wins and I thought that was true tonight. It was great for us to win an ugly, grind it out game like this." Those three double-digit scorers mentioned earlier? Da'Jon Streeter (6'4''-G) had 15 points and seven rebounds, Jarin Hilson (6'0''-PG-95) had 15 points and Alexander added 14 points and seven rebounds. TC will face GCAC competition again when they play host to the Southern University at New Orleans Knights Saturday. Tip-off in Tornado Alley is set for 5:00 p.m. Courtesy of: talladegatornadoes.com
