The one thing that Cedar Valley Court Kings coach Michael Mohlis has not done since taking over the top job is lose. Mohlis took full reign of the CourtKings last year and finished with a 10-0 record and a championship. So far this season, his squad remains undefeated at 4-0. But Sunday night, that mark was threatened by the visiting Minnesota Lakers. Trailing most of the game, the CourtKings rallied late and pulled off a 122-113 Midwest Basketball League victory over the Lakers at the Cedar Valley Sportsplex. Minnesota jumped to an early nine point lead in the first quarter and eventually extended that to an 11 point edge with five minutes remaining in the first half. Brady Burford (6'6''-PF-91, college: William Penn) answered the call. He caught fire scoring 16 of his game high 27 points in a 12-minute span that saw Cedar Valley whittle away at Minesota's early lead. 'We talked about our play at halftime and we knew that we were not playing that well and we needed to play with more energy,' Burford said. 'We had to come out and be more aggressive and let the game come to us. Our defense began to get those rebounds and we really began to pick up more energy from that moment.' Antony James later hit a big trey for Waterloo that tied the game at 75, and then Johnny Jackson gave the home team its first lead, 80-79. 'This whole season has been a growing process for us,' Mohlis said. 'Whether we win or lose it doesn't matter as long as we continue to grow. We showed a lot of growth tonight with guys coming off the bench and making big contributions.' Mac Johnson sent the home crowd into a frenzy as he drilled a long range 3-pointer at the third quarter buzzer, giving the CourtKings a 91-84 lead with one period to go. The home team then had to stave off a furious rally by the Lakers as they closed the gap to 116-113 with two minutes remaining.'It is a luxury to have the deep bench we have here,' Mohlis said. 'It is so crucial to have that and be able to rotate so many guys in.' Huge buckets by Marcus Smith, James Hicks (6'7''-F-87) and Aundre Hicks (6'2''-PG-88) helped the CourtKings prevail.

Fort Wayne Ballers move to 5-0 - 24 days ago
The Fort Wayne Bubba Ballers have been running through the MBL East Division as of late posting a perfect 5-0 record. On Saturday the Ballers made the trip down to Muncie to take on the Indiana Dream. In what was suppose to be a close game Fort Wayne used a balanced attack to send the Dream in lala land with a 127-109 rout. In order to improve to 6-0 the Ballers will have to do it on the road in one of the most hostile environments in the MBL against the Chicago Fury   [read more]
