Raijon Kelly
Throughout the season, coaches and players of the Cedar Valley CourtKings have said winning another Midwest Basketball League title was far more important than finishing the year undefeated. But on Saturday night, they managed to accomplish both goals. Raijon Kelly (6'4''-G-93, college: Angelo St.) scored 34 points and Cedar Valley capped a 19-0 season with a 121-106 win over the Ft. Wayne Vision in the MBL championship game on the campus of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. The win gives the CourtKings their second consecutive league title. They remain the only team in the Midwest League to win a championship. For his efforts, Kelly, who hit six 3-pointers while adding seven assists and five steals, earned game MVP honors. While Coach Michael Mohlis has tried to downplay the emphasis on running the table, Kelly says it provided additional significance to a championship season. ' (Winning) this game was the most important thing, but who wouldn't want to go undefeated?' Kelly said. 'It was definitely something we talked about.' Though Kelly was the biggest star Saturday, he got plenty of help. Alex Houston (6'5''-C/F-94, college: Mt.Mercy) (23 points, 14 rebounds) and Raheem Tyner (6'6''-C/F, college: Iowa Western CC) (15, 18) both had double-doubles. Anthony James (6'0''-PG-89, college: N.Iowa) and Aundre Hicks (6'2''-PG-88) also scored in double figures, finishing with 15 and 14 respectively. Cedar Valley also had a clutch night at the foul line, knocking down all 15 of its free throw attempts. The ability to make plays in tight situations tends to be a common trait in championship teams, and Mohlis said the 2017 CourtKings were no exception. 'It's awesome the way the guys found a way to win in some tough games throughout the year,' he said. 'We found a way to get clutch stops late in games. To go undefeated in this league is truly remarkable. It's really tough to do and it's a testament to our guys.'

Fort Wayne Ballers move to 5-0 - 1 month ago
The Fort Wayne Bubba Ballers have been running through the MBL East Division as of late posting a perfect 5-0 record. On Saturday the Ballers made the trip down to Muncie to take on the Indiana Dream. In what was suppose to be a close game Fort Wayne used a balanced attack to send the Dream in lala land with a 127-109 rout. In order to improve to 6-0 the Ballers will have to do it on the road in one of the most hostile environments in the MBL against the Chicago Fury   [read more]
