Knights lockdown McCook in rivalry game

Neveah Golden scored 14 points to lead North Platte to a 57-33 win over McCook Community College on Tuesday night. Jada Thompson was the only other North Platte player in double figures, finishing the night with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. "Our defense really carried us tonight as we struggled to get anything going on the offensive end," said head coach Jeff Thurman . "Proud of our effort." Knights jumped out to a 5-2 lead on a long-range jumper by Thompson. McCook fought back with a 13-3 run that extended into the early moments of the second quarter. North Platte settled into their rhythm while holding the Indians without a field goal over the final 6:58. During the stretch, the Knights unleashed a 12-2 run to take a three-point lead into the halftime break. North Platte continued to add to their lead as they outscored the Indians 20-4 in the opening nine minutes of the third quarter. Knights continued to maintain their lead over the final ten minutes to close out their fifth straight win. North Platte (15-10, 2-0 in the Region) will head to Southeast Community College on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
