Gaige Prim
Gaige Prim (6'9''-F/C) led all scorers with 28 points and eight rebounds as No. 5 South Plains blasted Frank Phillips College 111-51 Monday night at the Texan Dome to improve to 19-3 on the year and 8-2 in the WJCAC. South Plains shot a season-high 68.3 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from behind the arc as five players netted double figures and 12 players scored in the contest. "I thought defensively we were pretty sharp tonight," South Plains head coach Steve Green said. "We were kind of up for a challenge and got a little bit better on the defensive end. We needed this, and it's been a long time coming. They didn't necessarily offer much resistance, but it was definitely the most unselfish game we've played in quite some time." Prim finished 13 of 14 from the floor to go along with two blocked shots and a pair of assists in 30 minutes of action. Sophomore sharpshooter Jonah Antonio (6'5''-G-97) bucketed four 3s, netting 5 of 8 attempts from the floor and also dished out four assists. Christian Wilson (6'5''-G), who found his way into the starting lineup Monday night chipped in 13 points, finishing a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor and was 3-for-3 from behind the arc. "Our inside game was working tonight, and once they started doubling us inside we were able to kick it out to our shooters," Prim said. "Our ball movement really helped us find shots and create easy buckets all night. This was a huge win and a small part of what we can do and what we can become if we continue to work and play smart basketball the rest of the season." Sophomore Chris Orlina provided 11 points and 10 boards off the bench for the Texans while Trevin Wade tallied 10 points and four assists over 20 minutes. Sophomore big man Chris Efretuei (7'1''-C) hit a pair of shots off the glass, netting seven points in 10 minutes of action for the Texans. Frank Phillips (12-12, 2-8) was held to a 32 percent clip from the field and were 3 of 16 from the 3-point line. The Texans forced 17 turnovers in the contest resulting in 31 points on the offensive end and received 45 points off the bench against the Plainsmen. Marquise Kindel led Frank Phillips with 11 points over 29 minutes while Marcus Brown and James McNeil each poured in 10 points. South Plains will return to the hardwood on Thursday night when they travel to Big Spring for a 7:30 p.m. tip against Howard College.
