The International Basketball League is welcoming Japan back to the league for the 2012 season.

The IBL is excited for the return of a Japanese team to the league, this time with players from the premier professional leagues in Japan. ''We look forward to returning to the IBL with Japanese players representing the best professional athletes from the BJ League and the JBL, especially after the playoffs have been completed. Through the league we will develop relationships with international teams and develop our players through the high level competition,'' Japan Basketball Academy founder Tatsumi Nishida shared as he signed the agreement with the IBL.

The Japan Basketball Academy (JBA) will field a traveling team which will play a 20-game schedule with each game taking place on the road. A team name and logo will be announced shortly.

''We are honored to have Japan participating as we continue to develop the relationship with them, where many of our players are currently, as well as with the Japan Basketball Academy. The development of basketball is moving quickly in Japan with a good mix of culture and the western game, we not only want to be a proactive partner, but one who creates collaborative opportunities,'' shared Commissioner Graf.

''We will have many more developments through the league and more activity coming as we train and condition our players with the goal of one day placing a Japanese player in the NBA,'' added Nishida.

The last time the IBL saw a Japanese team was in 2009 when the JBAs Nippon Tornadoes played an 18-game road schedule, traveling across the United States and Canada. The team featured current Vancouver Volcanoes player Kenta Nakashima (6'3''-F-85) and BJ League veteran Daisuke Tamura (6'0''-G-81), who led the team in scoring with 26.7 points per game.

''Partnering with the Japan Basketball Academy, the international tour team will play a full IBL season, 20 games and participate in the IBL Playoffs which is really exciting,'' stated Gary Akiyama, JBA Advisor, ''We look forward to hosting the team who will be on the road for the season.''

Slam finishes Seattle Pro-Am regular season with first-ever OT win - 1 Year ago
The Bellingham Slam received a late game-tying put-back from center Austin Bragg (6'9''-F/C-91, college: W.Washington), then pulled away in overtime as they defeated Team Worldwide in a Seattle Pro-Am thriller, 110-103, at Royal Brougham Pavilion on Saturday. Remarkably, it was the first time the Slam had posted an overtime victory in team history, having gone 0-for-5 in previous games which required extra time. Thanks to hot outside shooting from forward Jordan Hamilton (6'7''-F-90, coll...   [read more]

Ex-Vikings power Bellingham Slam rout of Kitsap - 1 Year ago
The Bellingham Slam received contributions from a number of former Western Washington University players as they routed the Kitsap Admirals, 110-89, in Seattle Pro-Am action at Royal Brougham Pavilion on Saturday. Led by guard Taylor Stafford (6'1''-G-94, college: W.Washington) who tallied a game-high 38 points, seven ex-Vikings scored the Slam and accounted for over two-thirds of Bellingham's total offensive production. Stafford dazzled the crowd with perhaps the best shooting performanc...   [read more]
