The Colorado men’s basketball team still is about six weeks away from opening preseason practices for the 2024-25 season. Yet coach Tad Boyle’s program has gotten its first glimpse of the reinforcements arriving further down the road. Boyle and the Buffs received their first commitment for the 2025 recruiting class on Thursday night, getting a pledge from 6-foot-1 point guard Isaiah Johnson out of Los Angeles. Per 247Sports, Johnson is listed as a three-star prospect ranked as the No. 28 recruit in California and the No. 51 point guard in the nation. Senior Julian Hammond III is on track to be the Buffs’ starting point guard in the upcoming season, but even with open slots at his disposal this past spring, Boyle opted not add additional point guards and instead brought in three graduate transfers in the front court — Trevor Baskin (Western Colorado), Andrej Jakimovski (Washington State) and Elijah Malone (Grace College). Incoming freshman Felix Kossaras is a candidate to back up Hammond this season at the point.
