The Monarchs (5-2) have advanced to the GWBA championship game which is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 in Milwaukee, Wis. against the Milwaukee Aces at Alverno College.
"I echo the words of the great Michael Jordan and that is talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships," said Monarchs president and general manager Drey Wynn. "This cohesive team is extremely talented but the play of our veterans will determine if we repeat as Champions."

Monarchs awarded grant
Outside of basketball, the Monarchs were recently awarded a Youth Initiative Program grant for $5,000 from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.
The Monarchs are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that was established seven years ago to provide physical fitness, health educational and mentorship activities for at-risk youth.
The organization has developed the "Youth Fitness for Life" program, which emphasizes health and fitness mentoring and allows them to use professional athletes and college graduates to share life fitness concepts.
"We are both ecstatic and honored to be awarded our first grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint," Wynn said. "We sincerely thank Mr. Isaiah Oliver, CEO & President of the Community Foundation and all their employees who helped to make this opportunity possible for the Flint Monarchs."
