The Florida Flight picked up a much needed win this weekend, defeating the Bradenton GymRatz 91-79 on Saturday, June 10th at the RDV Sportsplex. The Flight shift from 5th to 4th place in the Florida Basketball Association (FBA) with the win, which is good enough to get them into the playoffs for the 2017 season. 'We had a rocky start to the season,' said Head Coach Mark King. ''They say it's not so much how you start, but how you finish. Our guys are poised to make a run and finish the season strong.' The Flight were led by Benjamin Williams, who scored 25 points in his first game back after recovering from a broken hand that he suffered earlier in the season. Daeshawn Beasley (6'1''-G) and Aaron Richards also contributed 22 points each. Kurt King, a former Flight player, paced the GymRatz with 25 points. As a part of the Flight's newly launched No Child Fights Alone initiative, the game was dedicated to Camila Perez, a 9 year old girl who just recently passed away from leukemia. $2.00 of every ticket will be donated to help cover the funeral expenses for their family. 'Since our inception, the Florida Flight has always done so much more than just play basketball games,' said King. 'After my father passed away from cancer last year, and seeing Armani, the son of Dimas Cintron, one our players, also die from cancer, I wanted to get off the sidelines and do something to join in the fight against this terrible disease. This program is our response to that call.' The Flight are back in action and on the road next weekend as they head to Riviera Beach, Florida to take on the Palm Beach Knights. It's a critical game for the Flight as they look to hold on to the final playoff spot in the FBA. The game is also important for the Knights. Currently in first place in the FBA, the Knights will look to secure home court advantage throughout the playoffs.
