Here is the weekly review of the top performing Canadian players, who play currently abroad.


Mikyle McIntosh

   #1. This week's number one is former U19 international forward Mikyle McIntosh (201-94, college: Oregon, currently plays in South Korea). McIntosh could not help Anyang KGC (9-9) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance Anyang KGC was crushed 99-67 on the road by the leading Mobis Phoebus. McIntosh recorded a double-double by scoring 40 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 3 assists, 4 blocks and 3 steals. But the season just started, so everything may happen. McIntosh has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.4ppg, 7.6rpg, 2.1apg, 2FGP: 54.7%, 3FGP: 22.4% and FT: 71.2%. McIntosh played for the Canadian U19 national team five years ago.

Kyle Wiltjer

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Kyle Wiltjer (208-92, college: Gonzaga, currently plays in EuroCup). He led his Spanish team Unicaja Malaga to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked Mornar Bar (2-6) crushing them 113-76 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. Wiltjer scored 17 points in 26 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. Unicaja Malaga (7-1) is placed first in group D. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Wiltjer's first year with the team. Wiltjer has relatively good stats this season: 11.6ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.1apg, 2FGP: 64.7%(22-34), 3FGP: 35.3% and FT: 76.5% in eight games he played so far. He played for the Canadian national team in 2015.

Thomas Scrubb

   #3. The Canadian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Thomas Scrubb (198-91, currently plays in Italy). Scrubb led Openjobmetis VA to a victory over the closely-ranked Happy Casa BR (5-3) 85-67 in the Italian Serie A in Sunday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Scrubb recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 10 rebounds. Openjobmetis Varese (5-3) is placed third in the Serie A. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Scrubb's first year with the team. This season he has relatively solid stats: 10.8ppg, 7.8rpg, 2.8apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 54.3%, 3FGP: 35.3%. Scrubb has a dual citizenship: British and Canadian. He is also a member of the Canadian senior national team.

Jamal Murray

   #4. Swingman Jamal Murray (198-97, college: Kentucky, currently plays in NBA) was the main contributor in a Denver Nuggets' victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder (12-7) 105-98 in the NBA last Saturday. Murray was the best player in that game. He scored 22 points, had 8 rebounds and dished 8 assists in 40 minutes; not bad, considering it's only Murray's third season in pro basketball. The Denver Nuggets have a solid 13-7 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Murray has very impressive stats this year: 17.4ppg, 4.4rpg and 4.6apg in 20 games. He used to play for the Canadian national team back in 2015.

   #5. International guard Philip Scrubb (191-92, college: Carleton, currently plays in VTB United League) was the major contributor in Zenit's victory against the ninth-ranked Stelmet Enea BC (2-5) 83-71 in the VTB United League on Saturday night. Scrubb scored 16 points and added 8 passes. Zenit Sankt Petersburg (5-2) is placed fourth in the VTB United League. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. It's Scrubb's first season with the team. He has reliable stats this year: 12.1ppg, 2.3rpg, 4.3apg and 1.4spg. Scrubb is another player who holds two passports: Canadian and British. He plays currently for the Canadian national team.

Kaza Kajami-Keane

   #6. Point guard Kaza Kajami-Keane (185-94, agency: Interperformances, college: Cleveland St., currently plays in Holland) contributed to Zwolle's victory against the seventh-ranked Rotterdam (4-8) 89-77 in the Dutch Eredivisie last Thursday. He was the top player that evening. Kajami-Keane scored 22 points, had 6 boards, passed 3 assists and added 5 steals. Landstede Basketbal Zwolle (11-0) is placed first in the Eredivisie. So far his team won all eleven games in the Regular Season. This season Kajami-Keane has very high stats. He averages: 18.3ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.8apg and 3.5spg. Kajami-Keane is an international player who is currently on the senior Canadian National Team roster.

   #7. International forward Tristan Thompson (206-91, college: Texas, currently plays in NBA) contributed to a Cleveland Cavaliers' victory against the Houston Rockets (9-9) 117-108 in the NBA on Saturday night. He had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 20 rebounds. Thompson also added and 4 steals in 39 minutes. The Cleveland Cavaliers have not so impressive 4-14 record this season. Thompson is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his eighth year in Cavaliers' roster. He has very impressive stats this season: 11.1ppg, 11.5rpg and 1.8apg in 18 games. Thompson is also Canadian national team player.

   #8. Point guard Kevin Pangos (185-93, college: Gonzaga, currently plays in Spain) helped FC Barcelona win their game against the closely-ranked Real Madrid (8-2) 86-69 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Sunday night's game. He recorded 7 points and added 4 passes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. FC Barcelona Lassa (9-1) is placed first in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Pangos' overall stats this season are: 9.6ppg, 1.5rpg and 3.6apg. He plays currently for the Canadian national team.

   #9. International point guard Cory Joseph (190-91, college: Texas, currently plays in NBA) was not able to help the Indiana Pacers (11-8) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance the Indiana Pacers (11-8) were defeated 111-100 in San Antonio by the Spurs. Joseph scored 18 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 7 assists. Joseph averaged so far 7.2ppg, 3.2rpg, 3.8apg and 1.5spg. He is also in the roster of the Canadian national team.

Guard Trae Bell-Haynes (188-95, college: Vermont, currently plays in Germany) helped Deutsche Bank Skyliners win their game against the fourth-ranked Braunschweig (2-2) 82-77 in the German BBL in Saturday night's game. Bell-Haynes scored 17 points and added 6 assists in 25 minutes. Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt (3-5) is placed 12th in the BBL. This year Bell-Haynes' overall stats are: 10.0ppg, 3.3rpg and 3.3apg in eight games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Canadian National Team roster.

   #11. Former U19 international swingman Trey Lyles (206-95, college: Kentucky, currently plays in NBA) is a teammate of previously mentioned Jamal Murray. But that was another game of his team in NBA which we would like to mention. Lyles helped Denver Nuggets win their game against the Orlando Magic crushing them 112-87. He was the top player that evening. Lyles scored 22 points. Lyles averaged so far 11.0ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.6apg. He used to play for the Canadian U19 national team five years ago.

   #12. Former international center Robert Sacre (213-89, college: Gonzaga, currently plays in Japan) helped Hitachi Sunrockers win their game against the sixth-ranked Shiga L-Stars 81-78 in the Japanese B League on Saturday night. Sacre was the top player that evening. He recorded 29 points (!!!) and grabbed 9 rebounds in 35 minutes. Sacre has very impressive stats this year: 18.2ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.4apg and 1.1spg in 19 games. He used to play for the Canadian national team back in 2015.

   #13. International forward Dyshawn Pierre (198-93, college: Dayton, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) helped his Italian team Banco di Srd win their game against the 31st-ranked Falco-Vulcano crushing them 92-60 in the FIBA Europe Cup in Wednesday night's game. Pierre was the top player that evening. He scored 15 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Pierre's total stats this season are: 7.1ppg, 3.6rpg and 2.5apg. He is also Canadian national team player.

   #14. Former international point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (198-98, college: Kentucky, currently plays in NBA) was not able to secure a victory for the Los Angeles Clippers (13-6) in their last game. Despite Gilgeous-Alexander's very good performance the Los Angeles Clippers lost 118-125 in Washington to the Wizards. He scored 17 points, made 3 passes and 3 steals in 29 minutes. Gilgeous-Alexander's stats this year are: 10.5ppg, 3.2rpg and 2.9apg in 19 games. He used to play for the Canadian national team back in 2016.

   #15. International power forward Andrew Nicholson (206-89, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in China) helped Sturgeons win their game against the 15th-ranked Brave Dragons 131-118 in the Chinese CBA on Tuesday night. Nicholson scored 34 points (!!!), had 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists. This season Nicholson has very high stats. He averages: 30.1ppg, 9.6rpg and 2.0apg. Nicholson used to play for the Canadian national team last year.


The list of other players, who all have Canadian passport but never been selected to any of Canadian national teams:

   #1. Dejan Kravic (211-F/C-90, college: Texas Tech, currently plays in Italy) could not help one of league's weakest teams Virtus Bologna (4-4) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Virtus Bologna was edged 89-86 on the road by the higher-ranked (#7) VL Pesaro. Kravic had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 4 blocks in 25 minutes. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Kravic's first year with the team. Kravic has relatively good stats this season: 12.6ppg and 6.4rpg in eight games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Serbian and Canadian.

   #2. Dylan Ennis (187-PG-91, agency: BeoBasket, college: Oregon, currently plays in Spain) led Andorra to a victory over the 12th-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (4-6) 85-79 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Saturday night's game. Ennis was the top player that evening. He recorded 18 points in 23 minutes. MoraBanc Andorra (5-5) is placed eighth in the Liga Endesa. Ennis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.2ppg, 3.9rpg and 2.2apg in 10 games. Ennis is another player who holds two passports: Canadian and Jamaican.

   #3. Kassius Robertson (191-G-94, college: Missouri, currently plays in Germany) was the main contributor in a BBC Bayreuth's victory against the closely-ranked BG Goettingen (3-6) 89-80 in the German BBL last Saturday. Robertson was the top player that evening. He scored 17 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 25 minutes. medi Bayreuth (5-3) is placed sixth in the BBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Robertson's overall stats are: 9.9ppg, 1.6rpg and 2.9apg in eight games.

   #4. Luguentz Dort (193-G-99, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an Arizona St.'s victory against the Utah State University 87-82 in the NCAA in Wednesday night's game. He recorded 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The Arizona State University has conference record this season. Dort has very impressive stats this year: 23.0ppg, 7.8rpg, 2.4apg and 2.2spg in five games.

   #5. Eugene Omoruyi (201-F, currently studies in the States) contributed to Rutgers' victory against the Boston University 54-44 in the NCAA on Friday night. He had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 17 rebounds in 31 minutes. The Rutgers, The State University has conference record this season. Omoruyi has very impressive stats this year: 15.8ppg, 9.8rpg and 2.8apg in five games.

   #6. Ryan Wright (206-C/F-87, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) was not able to help Joensuun Kataja in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his good performance the third-placed Joensuun Kataja was badly defeated 81-65 on the opponent's court by the much lower-ranked Dnipro (#28) in the group L of FIBA Europe Cup. Wright scored 11 points, had 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Wright averaged so far 11.4ppg and 4.5rpg.

   #7. Experienced Billy McNutt (203-C/F-85, currently plays in Luxembourg) contributed to Etzella's victory against the league outsider Residence 102-88 in the Luxembourg Total League in Sunday night's game. He was the top player that evening. McNutt recorded 28 points (!!!) and grabbed 7 rebounds. This season McNutt has very high stats. He averages: 24.0ppg, 10.6rpg, 2.1apg, 1.5bpg and 2.2spg.

   #8. Nathan Cayo (201-G-97, is currently at the American university) was not able to secure a victory for the Richmond in their game against the Hampton University in the NCAA, despite his very good performance in Sunday night's game. Cayo scored 23 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 32 minutes. But his team was badly defeated by 20 points 86-66. This year Cayo's total stats are: 9.2ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.2bpg in six games.

   #9. Shakwon Barrett (196-G, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to Tulane's victory against the South Dakota State University 84-80 in the NCAA last Monday. He scored 19 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Barrett's total stats this season are: 7.6ppg, 3.2rpg and 3.6apg.

   #10. Ahmed Ali (180-PG, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to a Washington St.'s victory against the Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo 84-70 in the NCAA in Monday night's game. He scored 15 points and added 6 passes in 31 minutes. This year Ali's total stats are: 9.0ppg, 2.0rpg and 3.7apg in three games.

MYCK KABONGO Al Nasr Riyadh (SBL) signed 26-year old Canadian ex-international guard Myck Kabongo (191-82kg-92, college: Texas). He is a dual citizen owning also DR Congolese passport. Kabongo started the season at Raptors 905 Missisauga (NBA G League) in the U.S. In 32 games he had 5.0ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.9apg this season.
