Durham United Basketball Club Win in their Home Opener - Jan 9, 2017

This past Sunday was Durham United Basketball Club's home opener and despite the frigid temperatures outside, the team was red hot in the arena. They went on to defeat the Wellington Basketball Club with a final score of 113-86. "They were on fire," said Wellington Basketball Club's interim coach, Butch Carter . "We were a second short on every open shot and they buried every single one of them." Durham did most of their damage from beyond the arc and finished the game 14-of-19 from the three-point line. Coach Carter had nothing but praise for his counterpart, Durham's Coach Palacio and how well he has worked his squad into form and feels that as a whole, the league is headed in the right direction. Despite the great shooting night from his team, Coach Palacio was more pleased with the way they shared the ball, finishing the night with a season-high 21 assists. When asked how he will approach their upcoming game against Hamilton United on Friday, Palacio stressed defence. "I'm always a guy that thinks offence sells tickets, defence wins championships. I'm going to get after them, they know I'm going to stay after them. They know that we got film session tomorrow and we're going to get after it defensively. I just hope we can keep playing the same way, just sharing the ball. I have a great group, they are so unselfish. They could care less who's scoring as long as everybody is doing their job." So, players of Durham United, enjoy your win, but just be aware that coach is expecting you to show up and be ready to work tomorrow. With the type of leadership on display by the league's coaches, and with Butch Carter at the helm, the future of the league looks bright.

Wellington loses again, coach blasts team for lack of leadership - 1 Year ago
Wellington BC interim head coach Butch Carter feels his team just isn't getting the on-floor leadership it needs and that's leading to its losses adding up in the inaugural Canadian Basketball League season. Monday afternoon in front of a crowd of about 1,000 people at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, Wellington squandered a fast start to the game and lost 90-75 to Durham United. It was Wellington's 12th loss in 14 games this season and fourth setback in a row. 'I've got two guys tha...   [read more]
