Regular Season Round 6: Royals - Valkyrie 100-77

There was no surprise in Berkeley where bottom-ranked Valkyrie (0-6) was crushed by fifth ranked Royals (3-3) 100-77 on Saturday. Royals dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Valkyrie's 8. They outrebounded Valkyrie 48-11 including a 16-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Royals looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Valkyrie's players. American-Cambodian Mariah Cooks (185-1994, college: WSU) scored 28 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Jasmine Guinn (168-1995) chipped in 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Royals players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Brooke Panfili (168, college: Sacramento St.) with 16 points and 4 steals and forward Kyanna Davis (175, college: CS Stanislaus) scored 9 points. Royals moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Phoenix. Loser Valkyrie still closes the standings with six games lost. Royals will meet league's second-placed Swish in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Valkyrie will play against the league's leader Wolves (#1) in Alameda and hopes to get finally their first victory.
