Regular Season Round 5: Swish - Valkyrie 116-86

Bottom-ranked Valkyrie (0-5) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to third ranked Swish (4-1) 116-86 on Saturday evening. Swish dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Valkyrie's 24. They outrebounded Valkyrie 47-32 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Swish looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Valkyrie's players. The best player for the winners was swingman Madison Michelis (180, college: Menlo) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Alexsis Brown (170, college: CSU Maritime) chipped in a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. Four Swish players scored in double figures. Guard Brooke Panfili (168, college: Sacramento St.) produced 19 points and forward Maggie Peressini (180) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. The victory was the third consecutive win for Swish. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Valkyrie lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Swish will meet at home Phoenix (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Valkyrie will play against Royals (#5) in Berkeley and hopes to get finally their first victory.
