The American Basketball Association (ABA) announced that it has added three teams to its Pac/NW Division, a part of the Far West Region of the league, all owned by ex-New York National, Gerrad Brooks. "We are very excited about adding these three teams," stated ABA co-founder Joe Newman , "not only because it helps fill out the Pac/NW Division, but because each of the three teams will feature many of the country's best Native American players, another important part of the ABA's groundbreaking diversity."
"Gerrad Brooks has taken on the task of developing these three teams, and certainly has the background and experience to be very successful," added Newman. "The teams will include the Port Angeles Rams and Tacoma Kings and one to be determined."
A native of Fredericksburg VA, Brooks attended Morrisville State College in Morrisville NY where he led the team and regions in scoring before heading to Barton College in Wilson NC. Following his collegiate career, he joined the New York Nationals organization before becoming Head Basketball Coach at Neah Bay High School in Neah Bay WA where he brought the team to the State Championship game for the first time in the school's history.
Brooks is heavily involved in the Native American community of which he is a part. "So, I am going to strive to repay the kindnesses, acceptance and love they have shown me by providing a platform for the best Native American basketball players to represent themselves, their cultures and their families in a positive light through the beautiful game of basketball," added Brooks. "We are very excited about being a part of the ABA, where diversification has found a home."
