The Southeast Texas Mavericks (5-0) defeated the Texas Fuel (2-4) in dominating fashion on Thursday night 147-63 (!!) at their NJEC Arena in Winnie, TX. The Fuel scored the first two points of the game and led twice in the opening moments of the first quarter. But with the score at 13-11 with the Mavericks back in front the Mavs went on an 18-0 run led by DeSean White (6'8''-F-86, college: Northwood Fl.) and Myles Thrash (6'0''-G-77, college: Stillman), who came off the SETX bench. The Mavericks went on the lead big after one period of play 35-13. The second quarter led too much of the same as the Mavericks bench continued to wear down the Fuel. Currye Todd (6'4''-G-85, college: Lamar) got act as did Alex Sanders (6'7''-F/C-75, college: Louisville) and Desmond Cambridge (6'0''-G-79, college: Alabama A&M). The Mavericks continued to score in bunches and led at the half 71-29. The third quarter was led by bookend wing players Jermaine Blackburn (6'7''-G/F-83, college: Boise St.) and Josh Pace (6'6''-G-83, college: Syracuse) as the Mavericks played their most dominating quarter of the season by scoring 42 points in the quarter and as the quarter ended the Mavs found themselves ahead 113-46. In the last period of play the Mavericks cleared their bench and cruised on to their 5th victory of the season.
Nine Mavericks Players scored in double figures in the game! Todd led the Mavs in scoring with 22 points. White and Blackburn each scored 16 points. Alex Sanders, Pace, and Thrash scored 14 points apiece. Odell Bradley (6'4''-F/G-81, college: IUPUI) added 13 points and Kenny Dawkins (5'9''-G-87, college: Lamar) rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points respectively. Julius Allgood (6'6''-F, college: Southern St. CC) led the TX Fuel with 18 points and Lamar Wright (6'10''-C-78, college: Porterville JC) added 17 points.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Saturday night at home vs the Dallas Impact. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

Aliens zaps Lightning and upset Generals - 11 days ago
The unranked Atlanta Aliens are proving that they are one of the most competitive teams in the ABA and definitely one of the best ABA teams in the State of Georgia. This past weekend, the Aliens were faced with two elimination games and survived. In Game 1 Saturday, the Pensacola Lightning traveled to Atlanta for the Play-in game and the Aliens won 150-103. Immediately from the tip-off, the Aliens quickly took control of the game with their infamous defensive pressure and built a 29-3 lea...   [read more]
