The American Basketball Association has just announced that it has added five teams to the recently created ABA CANADA initiative. The teams will begin playing in 2011 and will start with a series of basketball events starting next summer. 'We have been working very closely with Bill Crowdis of Long Term Development Sports and Director of ABA Canada to create something really special in Canada for professional basketball,' stated Joe Newman , ABA CEO. 'And Bill has done an excellent job in developing an initial five markets with several others in the works. Basketball is very popular in Canada and the quality of players there is excellent. Now, they will have a place to play and a chance to develop their skills as well as get worldwide exposure. We are very excited.'
The first five teams will be located in Oshawa, Toronto, Mississaugua, Hamilton and Northwest Ontario.
'As stated previously when my team was first announced, we are very excited to be a part of the ABA. The ABA brand is well recognized, the quality of players in the ABA is excellent and the game is very exciting,' stated Bill Crowdis . 'We know that we can be very successful and create a great platform for all of the terrific basketball talent in Canada. And, as an added caveat, our players will be eligible for the ABA All Star team as well as our teams being eligible for the ABA playoffs. A win-win situation for sure.'
ABA Canada is interested in expansion throughout Canada,' added Crowdis. 'It you are interested in owning a professional basketball team, please contact me. It is easier to own and operation an ABA team than any other, and when the ABA business model is followed, it can be a fun and profitable experience.'
