 | Las Vegas Pride Hires GM | |
|
| | | Las Vegas, NV
The Las Vegas Pride, the newest team in the Womens Blue Chip Basketball League, announced on Friday that Jovan Thomas will serve as their first General Manager.
Thomas, who has been involved with minor league basketball for several years, will oversee all day-to-day operations of the franchise, including the scouting, recruiting and signing of players.
Contributing to Jovan's expertise is the experience he has gained during his present twelve-year service in the United States Air Force. As an NCO leading troops to make award-winning progress, as well as early promotions, he is devoted to helping them achieve greatness in their careers, and that devotion continues through his work with the SMWW Agency. Jovan is dedicated to living and leading by the Air Force motto: Integrity first, service before self, excellence in all we do.
Jovan received his associate degree from Air University, and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Sports Management from the U.S. Sports Academy. He is currently certified through SMWW in the Athlete Management and General Management/Scouting fields. He embraces ongoing training, helping to keep himself on the cutting edge of his field. Jovan is proving to be a rising star within the industry. It's a career that he's passionate about, striving to help put talent where talent belongs, assisting in the realization of his clients' fullest potential.
One of our core objectives is to provide an outlet for local players who have completed their eligibility at the college level, and are looking for an opportunity to continue playing professionally, said Thomas in a release.
The Pride will kick off their inaugural campaign in May. No roster announcements have yet been made by the team, but team owner, Dan Savage is confident that his new GM will be able to start building a solid foundation immediately.
Jovan has a rare combination of passion for the game and deep basketball knowledge coupled with integrity and organizational skills, said Savage in a prepared statement. The Pride is fortunate to have him involved.

 | Columbus signs a true Hidden Gem! | |
|
| | | 12/18/08 Columbus, OH
Jeannie Saunders (5'8 - G - Salem International University) is one of the most productive and well-rounded players I have ever come across in all my years of basketball. She simply does whatever it takes to win. Jeannie has virtually no weaknesses in her game. She is a true Hidden Gem in every sense of the word. Jeannie Saunders has WNBA talent and I do not throw those words around much at all. I fully expect her to be an instant impact player and leader for this team, as well as one of the best players in the entire WBCBL league.'

 | Columbus Hidden Gems Sign First Player | |
|
| | | Columbus Hidden Gems Sign First Player 11/21/08 Columbus, OH
Tyanda Hammock, (5'10 - Guard/Forward - Wright State University) is a versatile player we truly believe has slipped through the cracks of professional basketball abroad. Columbus Hidden Gems feels she should be an amazing asset to our organization and a great place to begin our search for a very competitive roster. She has played positions 1-3 (and even a little bit of 4) at the mid major D1 level and should do so for us as well. Tryout and other information should be coming soon. - Coach Jones |
