Coach Danny Spencer of the Illinois Starlights was satisfied this weekend performance. Now I have a really good feel for personnel and want direction we need to go.

On Saturday 4th, the first game of the series product a 83 to 72 win for the Starlights. With a strong first quarter (31 to 7), the Starlights never look back. Led the way for the Starlights was Shante Glenn 23 points, 8 steals, Tonishea Mack 13 points, 5 rebounds and Roslyn Turner 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Crush was lead by Catherine Cain 15 points and Kelly Chambers 9 points.

In the second game on Sunday 5th, poor free throw shooting and adjustment by the Crush resulted in a 75 to 73 loss. Shooting only 47% from the free throw line was a major factor in this game, we must do better Spencer stated. Joanna Ortiz led the way with 15 points (60% from 3 point line), Roslyn Turner 12 points and Morriah Smith 11 points and 4 assists. Catherine Cain again lead the way for the Cleveland Crush with 14 points.

Next game for Illinois Starlights is against the Chicago Lady Steam (5/11/13) at UIC PE Building (900 W Roosevelt, Chicago, IL). Tip-off is at 2pm.

The Boston Bombers touted themselves as Bostons only womens semi-pro basketball team, a real part of the community. But now, because of that community association, the team is voluntarily changing its name in the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy.

"Due to the recent events in Boston, Jakoya and I believed it would be insensitive to the victims of the tragedy to remain the "Boston Bombers". The decision was a very easy one and we definitely wanted to pay our respect to those who lost their life, were injured, and affected by this terrible act. The name Boston Bulldogs was chosen by our current players who also feel compassion for the victims. As an organization we pride ourselves on being a positive representation for Boston and felt it necessary to just start fresh. We are currently in a transition stage and have begun rebuilding a platform for fans and supports to stay updated with the organization as we immediately deactivated our team website, Facebook, and Twitter pages. At this time we are referring everyone to the WBCBL website for information or to our new twitter page @BullDogsWB....."

Illinois Starlights' general manager/co-owner, Derrick Smith, announce that Danny Spencer has officially accepted the position of head coach of the Illinois Starlights semi-pro Women's Basketball team. After coaching the boys varsity basketball team at Paul Robeson High School of Chicago, IL for 15years, he has decided to accept the challenge of coaching in a semi-pro league. Coach Spencer's proven ability in coaching Jeremy and Jannero Pargo, both are currently playing in the NBA, the Starlights Organization is confident that the proven experience of Coach Spencer will make the team great contenders in the league.

Additionally, Nate Belcher has been selected as the team trainer. Belcher currently owns Belcher Fitness & Boot Camp where he specializes in speed and agility training. He has certifications in American Council of Exercise (ACE), International Fitness Personal and Trainer & Fitness Certification (ISSA). Belcher listed credentials will play a key role in strength development of the team.
