UBA MVP Race: Michael Davis Reports:
With the league now at the half way point we will now take the time to review the top candidates for the 2011-2012 MVP as I have them ranked.
Freddie Williams (6'2''-G-87, college: Clayton St.) (24.0 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 3.5APG) Davis Breakdown: Freddie Williams (6'2''-G-87, college: Clayton St.) was the sixth man in his UBA rookie campaign for the 2010-11 Southern Generals but he has definitely taken advantage of his new role on his new team. Now starting Williams, former UBA Finals MVP of the 2011 Southern Generals, has put together a monstrous year with the GIE Morrow Disciples. He is currently 2nd in the league in scoring averaging 24 points a game and leads the league in steals with average of 4.7 per contest. At this rate, he could also be in the running for Defensive Player of Year.well see. But we all know now that Freddie Williams (6'2''-G-87, college: Clayton St.) has transformed himself into one of the leagues top guard in the 2011-12 UBA season.
Will Morning (6'7''-F, college: McNeese St.) (19.4 PPG, 11.3 RPG, 2.0 BPG) Davis Breakdown: Will Morning (6'7''-F, college: McNeese St.) has been one of the best Centers in UBA since hes been drafted out of McNeese St. to the Central Texas Cyclones. Morning is a complete player at his position. He possesses great ball skills, footwork, post-moves, and a very consistent mid-range jumper. Upon being exceptionally polished on the offensive end; hes definitely a defensive force in the middle. The Cyclones BIG Man is currently 4th in the UBA with 11.3 Rebounds per Game and also averages 2.4 Blocks per Game which also ranks him 4th in the league.
Edward Horton (6'4''-G-85, college: Murray St.) (19.5 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 8.8 APG) Davis Breakdown: Considered the UBAs most complete point guard Edward Horton has put together a great year dating back to the Eurobasket Summer League in Houston, TX then signed to a club in KR Reykjavik, Iceland where he had an exceptional campaign. Hes done the same since his return to the UBA with the Central Texas Cyclones. Horton can score at will and also does a great job of getting of getting all of his teammates involved in the offense. Some say his scoring could be higher but he definitely makes up for it with his exceptional passing and solid rebounding for a PG.
Jermaine Barnes (6'5''-G/F-82, college: Atlanta Christian) (30.8 PPG, 6.6 APG, 3.7 SPG) Davis Breakdown: The 2-time reigning UBA MVP.what else can you say? Since the inaugural season Mr. UBA, Jermaine Barnes (6'5''-G/F-82, college: Atlanta Christian), has been running rampant on all comers and challengers hes faced. Barnes is as a complete basketball player the UBA has ever seen. Jermaine Barnes (6'5''-G/F-82, college: Atlanta Christian) is a leader first.then Hes an excellent shooter, scorer, passer, and a finisher on the offensive plus hes always mentioned among the top-defenders in the league. Hes been the only MVP the league has known thus far and with his play this season it may remain that way. Barnes looks to capture another scoring title with his league-leading 30.8 Points per Game and J.B. in addition is averaging 3.7 Steals per Game ranking him 3rd in the UBA. Barnes is definitely one reason the GIE Morrow Disciples possess the leagues best record.
Jonathon Avery (6'7''-F, college: IUPUI) (24.0 PPG, 12.8 RPG, 3.4 SPG) Davis Breakdown: Avery is one of the biggest prospects ever drafted in the UBA out of Mid-Major Powerhouse IUPUI. Hes played against some of the most talented basketball players in America while attending IUPUI and held his own. As a Pro, hes definitely shining bright in the UBA for the Cincinnati Slam whos #1 in the East Conference. Jonathan Avery is having a very huge season and his great play has transformed the Slam into an immediate contender in the UBA. Avery is currently ranked in the Top 5 in Points per Game, Rebounds per Game, and Steals. He does it all! At this pace, I would not be surprised if he hoists the MVP at seasons end. Stay tuned
