Lewis leaves Drive to play in Australia - Feb 3, 2012 (by Eurobasket News )
How one plays in the Premier Basketball League can open doors or result in one being shown the door.
The Central Illinois Drive made that clear this week as star forward Tony Lewis (6'7''-F-89, college: Illinois St.) accepted a chance to play professionally in Australia while fellow forward Deonta Black was released.

The Central Illinois Drive made that clear this week as star forward Tony Lewis (6'7''-F-89, college: Illinois St.) accepted a chance to play professionally in Australia while fellow forward Deonta Black was released.
Its a big loss, but also a great opportunity for other guys, said Drive coach A.J. Guyton referring to the 6-foot-6 Lewis, an Illinois State grad who averaged 13.8 points on 58.1 percent shooting.
Its good for the league for a guy to go on and play at another level and it shows that if you work hard enough, youll get noticed.
Winning also gets noticed. Lewis helped the Drive, the PBLs only unbeaten team, build a 6-0 record ahead of Saturdays 3 p.m. (Central) game against the Indiana Diesels (1-4) at Whiteland (Ind.) High School.
The Drive and Diesels play again at 2:05 p.m. Sunday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. For $10, fans can attend the Drive Tailgate at 12:30 p.m. for all-you-can-eat food, a ticket to the game and a ticket to the Bloomington Edge home football opener.
Lewiss playing time will likely be split among Matt Salley, Anthony Slack, Bryan Mokeski and new acquisition Terrence Green.
The 6-foot-10 Green, a Chicago King product, is a former Augustana College reserve who averaged 2.0 points as a senior in 2009-10.
Hes super athletic and physical, said guard Rodney Edgerson, who leads the Drive in scoring at 16.0 per game. Hell bring us rebounding and he can finish at the rim.
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Steamers signed guard Lionel Armstead (5'11''-G-80, college: W.Virginia) Wednesday and placed Daniel Miller (6'5''-F) on the injured reserve list.

The former West Virginia University guard still ranks third in the PBL in 3-pointers made per game while ranking sixth in scoring and 3-point percentage.
The addition of Armstead gives the first-year Steamers (3-3) three of the top six scorers in the league.
Chris Commons is second to Desmond Hollaway of the Sauk Valley Predators with a 24.0 points per game average. Hollaway leads the league with 27.2 per game.
Vinny Simpson ranks fourth at 22.2 points per game and leads the league with 2.8 made 3-pointers per game.
Miller, a 6-foot-5 forward, made his only appearance with the team in Saturday's 114-108 loss to the Dayton Air Strikers. He was scoreless.
The Steamers return to action Saturday at 3:05 against the Lake Michigan Admirals at the Lackawanna College Student Union.
