Middle Tennessee Wins C-USA Women's Basketball Championship - Mar 15, 2016

Blue Raiders Claim Second C-USA Championship Title in Three Years
Middle Tennessee opened a 12-point lead at halftime and held on to claim a 70-54 victory over Old Dominion and secure a berth in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday in the Conference USA Championship game at Legacy Arena.
No. 2 Middle Tennessee (24-8), winners of six straight, jumped out to an eight-point lead after a quarter of play and took a 34-22 lead into halftime. Ty Petty (5'7''-G-94), a C-USA All-Conference Second Team selection, filled up the stat sheet in the opening two periods, with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, five rebounds, and four assists.
No. 5 Old Dominion (17-17) cut the lead to nine early in the third quarter, but Caroline Warden (5'7''-G-94) responded with a 3-pointer to increase the lead back to double digits with 5:28 left in the third.
Middle Tennessee shot 43 percent from the field, compared to just 27 percent for Old Dominion. Petty finished with 19 points, six boards, and seven assists. C-USA All-Tournament Team selection Brea Edwards (5'10''-G-93) notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Abbey Sissom (5'8''-G-96) scored 11 and Gabby Lyon (6'0''-F-96) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
ODU All-C-USA First Team guard Jennie Simms (6'0''-G) shot just 6-of-24 from the field but led Old Dominion with 21 points, to vault her into third place all-time in the C-USA tournament with 98 total points for the week. Ije Ajemba (6'3''-C-95) secured a team-high 11 rebounds.
The win gives Middle Tennessee its second Conference USA tournament title. With the men's team also winning on Saturday, Middle Tennessee becomes the first school to win both C-USA titles since Cincinnati in 2002.
