USbasket.com had a chance to sit down with Daniel and chat about his current life and his basketball future:
1. Tell our readers a little bit about your accomplishments and experiences during your college career. My entire college career was a great experience. Coming from a different country, Jamaica, I didnt know what to expect. However, I was surrounded by coaches and players who cared about my well-being. In addition, I was surrounded by people who looked out for my best interest as well as growth as a basketball player. During my college years, I have made several accomplishments. These include: NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, Cedarville All-Sports Athlete of the Year, Cedarville Basketball MVP, NCCAA D1 All-American Second Team, All-American Mideast Conference (AMC) First Team, All-NCCAA Mideast Region First Team, and Three Time All-American Mideast Conference Honorable mention. Also, I graduated with a degree in Business Management, carrying a 3.3 GPA.
2. What are your main strengths and your weaknessess, that you want to work on? One of my major strength is the ability to block and influence shots. Ever since i started playing basketball, I always made an impact on my team with the ability of blocking shots. I love the reaction of the fans and players when i block a shot. It gave me that extra energy, boost. Another strength I posses is my ability to be an offensive force. I can score in the post as well as making 15 ft shots. However, there are some weaknesses that I have been working on. First, I want to be more vocal. I want to better able to motivate my teammates. Second, i want to increase my FG% and FT%. Third, I want to become a three point threat. I didnt shoot 3s during my college career. Finally, I want to be a better rebounded, both offensive and defensive. My goal is to improve on my strengths as well as weaknesses to become a better basketball player.
3. You grew up in Jamaica. How did you end up playing for Cedarville? I end up at Cedarville with the help of a past Jamaican player, Mike Minto. He is the reason why I attended Cedarville. He saw my talent at a yearly summer basketball camp in Jamaica and thought I was the right fit for Cedarville basketball Team. With his connections with Cedarville basketball, he was able to influence Cedarville to recruit me. Although, several teams wanted me to be a part of their basketball program, such as Niagara University (NCAA1). Cedarville was the one that worked out. Several other past basketball players attended Cedarville Unversity. Players include: Mugabe Thomas, Linton Ellis, Bobby Pollack, and so on. Also, two Jamaica players, Ricardo Alliman and Christopher Walker, are currently attending Cdedarville. Both players were brought to Cedarville with the help of Mike Minto.
4. What can a pro team expect from you as a player and a person? A pro team can expect me to work hard at everything i do. They can expect me to make contributions on and off the court. In addition, they can expect me to be a offensive as well as defensive force. A pro team can expect me to do whatever it takes to win games.
5. What are your plans for the summer? My plans for this summer is to work on my basketball game, both skill and conditioning. In addition, I have been lifting weights in order to become stronger. Also, I will be getting married on July 11, 2009. I plan to attend Scorers1st Showcase in Las Vegas in July.

Shaun Dumas (5'11''-G-85) has dreamed many years of playing professional basketball. On Tuesday morning the Xavier (LA) All-America guard will get a shot to impress another hometown team when he works out for the New Orleans Hornets. Dumas, who received his bachelor of science degree from Xavier on May 9, will work out for the NBA team with five other collegiate players at the Alario Center in suburban Westwego, La. The process will start at 9:30. 'I've been granted an opportunity to make my dreams become reality,' said Dumas, a 5-foot-11 point guard and a 2004 graduate of St. Augustine High School. 'It shows that hard work pays off. I'm going to come ready to play and just do what I've been doing since I was nine years old.' Dumas was a third-team NAIA Division I All-American as a senior and sophomore and honorable mention as a junior. He was All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference his final three seasons, the GCAC Freshman of the Year in 2004-05 and the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches Small College Player of the Year in 2006-07. He averaged 14.7 points, 4.2 assists and 3.2 steals per game this past season and finished four seasons at Xavier with 1,434 points, a school-record 380 steals and a school-record-tying 129 games played. Dumas helped
Xavier qualify for the NAIA Division I National Championship his first three seasons, and he helped the Gold Rush in 2007 earn its first victory at nationals since 1973. Dumas has yet to hire an agent to represent him, but he said Monday he expects to have one secured by the end of this month. Nearly five months ago Dumas told Peter Steinbauer, a writer for The Times-Picayune newspaper, of his admiration for Hornets point guard Chris Paul, a second-team All-NBA selection this past season. 'I go on YouTube every day before a game and sometimes before practice, and I just watch the way (Paul) plays, his style, how poised he is on the court, and I try to mimic him,' Dumas said. This will not be Dumas' first trip to the Alario Center to show his skills in a non-Xavier setting. He drew raves in this same venue in August 2007 at the adidas Basketball Experience, a multigame event for male amateur U.S. and foreign players. Source: Xavier (LA)
