President of Basketball Operations, Tyler Whitcomb has decided on bringing his Holland Blast team back into the IBL. Mr. Whitcomb discussed putting together his own league but quickly found that the effort it would take to establish and build it was not worth the time and that everything he was looking for in a league was already there for the taking within the realm of the IBL. Tyler already runs a Professional Basketball magazine focused on scouting and has done film editing and other work in the NBA, as well as having a family and came to the decision that the IBL was the right place to be after all. The Holland Blast have been a very successful team in the league and it is a safe assumption they will continue to be for some time.
Holland has also set up a free tryout on March 6th to ensure his team's overall competitiveness. Details below:

International Basketball League teams upgrade venues; Rosters feature NBA and overseas talent
Portland, Oregon--Several IBL teams are upgrading playing venues for the 2010 season and beyond. All expansion teams moving forward will be required to have arena deals in place. This reflects the progression of the league, including high level talent that have recently landed several prominent positions overseas and received workouts with NBA franchises.
About the IBL: The International Basketball League is an established sixth year league. The leagues season goes from late April through the first week in July. In 2007, 102 players who played in the IBL went on to land jobs playing professionally overseas. This 2007 season established the IBL as the league to play in to get or maintain an overseas job. Twenty-one former NBA players have played in the IBL including Tim Hardaway, Dennis Rodman, and Shawn Kemp. See IBL's official website, www.iblhoopsonline.com, for more info and video on the league.
Teams with upgraded venues: 1. The Central Oregon Hotshots will be playing games at the Redmond Events Center 2. The Battle Creek Knights return to the IBL in 2010 and will play at Kellogg Arena 3. The Albany, New York Legends will play in the legendary Washington Avenue Armory 4. The Los Angeles Lightning are expected to play one or more games at the LA Sports Arena in 2011 5. Yakima will be entering the league in 2011 and will be playing at the Yakima Sun Dome 6. Idaho will be entering the league in 2011 or 2012 and will be playing in a new arena
Several other IBL teams are already playing in Arenas or at Colleges, including: Edmonton Energy, Vancouver B.C. Titans, Bellingham Slam, Kankakee County Soldiers, Vancouver (USA) Volcanoes, and the Holland Blast. Central Oregon Hotshots owner Mikal Duilio--'This is the future of our team and the future for other teams in the league. We are already efficient and well branded but now it is time to put our talent and the IBL game in a venue where a game night is a night out--an eventthat appeals to more than just the basketball enthusiast. Playing in an arena is an exciting move for the Hotshots.'
IBL players secure tryouts with NBA teams: Tyler Amaya of the Bellingham Slam was invited for a work out with the Houston Rockets. Bryson McKenzie, who averaged 17.8 points and 14.6 rebounds in the 2009 IBL season for the Vancouver Volcanoes played with the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat in the summer league. Many other IBL players in the past and present have and will have attempts to make an NBA roster. One team, the L.A. Lightning, has significant NBA experience.
Defending champs roster features 6 ex-NBA players: The Los Angeles Lightning struck gold in their second IBL season as a six pack of former NBA players led the L.A. Lightning to the IBL 2009 Championshipa championship heralded as one of the best in minor league history. The L.A. Lightning beat the Oregon Waves 2 games to 1, capped by a 111-94 triumph on July 28 at Cal Lutheran University. For the first time, there were six former NBA players on one IBL team Lamond Murray (Clippers) a 12-year NBA veteran who averaged 26.3 points in the finals and was named MVP, Fred Vinson (Seattle SuperSonics), Toby Bailey (Suns), Bryon Russell (Jazz), Darrick Martin (Clippers) and Juaquin Hawkins (Rockets). Other greats for the L.A. Lightning were Trayvon Lathan, a slashing 6' 7' guard who plays above the rim, ex-UCLA star Billy Knight, 6' 11' Chris Ayer, and Adam Parada, a 7' 0' foot center who shot 69% for the season. The Lightning off season has seen multiple offers to play internationally. Says owner Mark Harwell--'This means a lot for the community and building for the future. We're planning to play some games in Brazil--being the IBL champions is going to help us quite a bit.'
Overseas relationships: Terrance Dickens, who coached the Oregon Waves during the 2009 IBL season, has placed five players overseas and has received multiple offers for former all Pac-10 forward David Lucas. Dickens himself has been a candidate for two coaching jobs in China and another in Japan. One of the players Dickens helped place in Japan, Michael Parker, is considered one of the best players in the league, and another, Richard Ford, is an explosive player who averaged 25.6 points and 13.8 rebounds per game during the 2009 IBL last season. And while recently in Japan, Dickens, who also serves as IBL Deputy Commissioner had the pleasure of meeting with league Commissioner Toshimitsu Kawachi. Another IBL coach, Theo Evans of the Vancouver Volcanoes, was highly successful for a professional team Romania as their head coach during the 2008-2009 season and, upon completion of the 2009 Volcanoes season, was invited back to coach during their 2009-2010 season, bringing multiple IBL players with him, including Volcano point guard Kevin Tyner. In fact, most every Vancouver Volcano player is now an overseas player. Even the Yamhill HighFlyers, coming of their short-season branding year, placed two players overseas. 6'4' guard Riley Luettgerodt, who averaged 25.8 points and 4.8 rebounds for the HighFlyers in 2009, landed a job on a German professional team and now is currently playing in Austrailia. And 6'9' forward Jason Hartford, who averaged 29 points and 13.3 rebounds for the HighFlyers, was named MVP of a league in Africa and is currently playing professionally in Portugal. Hartford is expected to return to the HighFlyers for their 2010 campaign.

Why Play in the IBL: The International Basketball League is a sixth year league with teams from America, Canada, China, and Japan. The leagues season goes from late April through the first week in July. In 2007, 102 players who played in the IBL went on to land jobs playing professionally overseas. This 2007 season established the IBL as the league to play in to get or maintain an overseas job. IBL players get exposure, video, stats, and get in the best shape possible to help them land an overseas jobs. The IBL has top level talent, with twenty-one former NBA players having played in the league including Tim Hardaway, Dennis Rodman, and Shawn Kemp. See IBLs official website, www.iblhoopsonline.com, for more info and video on the league.
Format: Players will compete in three basketball games and are put through a series of professional skill workouts. Two of these games will be 48-minute stopped time, official length games, while the other will be a running time one hour game, for a total of five hours of basketball per player. For the April and May tryouts, the stopped-time games will be against actual IBL teams and will count in their standings. For these games, you will be playing on a team named the 'USA All-Stars.' The goal is that players have such a thorough basketball weekend that players that are good enough to be in the league are not missed. And on the other side, rejected players will know that they got a solid look from five to eight teams and will be able to give up on their basketball dreams more easily and move on to other things than just basketball.
Cost and how to register: The cost to participate in each tryout is $150, except the Orlando one day tryout which costs $75. Players can register by calling Terrance Dickens at 503-805-3311. ###
