There is a certain air of excitement around the New York Wizards practices lately as the sit at 7-1, in a virtual dead heat for 1st place in the Eastern Basketball Alliance Northern Conference, Empire Division, with the Elmira Bulldogs. The excitement is around what they have accomplished and the road in front of them. This team has taken care of business all year stated to Usbasket.com Head Coach Greg Cerillo Sr We have received some of the best guard play in the league with Leon Pursoo (6'1''-G-82, college: LIU-Southampton) remaining a rock at the point and Nick Carter (6'1''-F-86, college: C.W. Post) gaining All Star recognition for his outstanding play. In addition Mike McDuffie (6'4''-F-86, college: Adelphi), another of our All Stars, has dominated virtually every opponent he faced this season and Jerome Richardson (6'4''-G/F-83, college: Louisiana Tech) is taking the ball into the paint at will. When we add Anthony Cox (6'9''-C-83, college: Farmingdale St.) (EBA All Star Alternate) at center I venture to guess we have one of the better starting fives in the league. A sticking point this season has been the Wizards' depth. We encourage if not outright require that our players work and become active parts of the community. In addition coach Cerillo's policy has always been family and work first stated General Manager Steven Geick Because of this we often have players, who are very valuable to the team, unavailable to us for certain games. When you combine this with some injuries, we have placed a lot of weight on the starting five. The Wizards have been without the services of 2009 1st Team All EBA Forward Mike Mosby (6'6''-F-84, college: Adelphi) virtually all season due to work commitments. Same holds true for power forward Mike Sessions (6'5''-F-81, college: Dowling), who is a valuable Wizard big man and defensive stopper, who has also been unavailable for several weeks. Super 6th Man Brandon Butler (6'0''-G-82, college: C.W. Post) (17 PPG in 24 minutes per game) has been unavailable for 4 weeks due to an obligation to an overseas contract, and work commitments. Greg Cerillo Jr., who established an EBA record 55% 3-pt shooting percentage last season, has missed several weeks due to injury and work commitments. This all may change real soon, because Mosby is expected back in uniform for the remaining 3 games of the season and the first game of the playoffs, and Butler and Cerillo Jr. will both return too.
Some of the EBA games scheduled over the past weekend were delayed. The main result of the week is the win, 142-131 after an OT, of the Elmira Bulldogs over the Washington Madness on the road. Sherod Harris (5'10''-G-83, college: Brockport St.) sparked the Bulldogs with 29 ponts off the bench, including a EBA league season high of 6 3-pointers [read more]

Sherod Harris (5'10''-G-83, college: Brockport St.) sparked the Bulldogs with 29 ponts off the bench, including a EBA league season high of 6 3-pointers. The other best performers in Elmira were Brandon Lawley (6'7''-F/C-85, college: Mansfield (PA)), who scored a new career high 24 points, Aubin Scott (6'2''-G-83, college: LIU Brooklyn) and newcomer Peter Lawal (6'6''-F-86, college: Post), who both scored 20 points each. The Washington Madness (now 5-2, at the top of Southern Conference-Capital Div) were led by Louis Ford (5'6''-G, college: Howard) with 22 points in defeat, and the Elmira Bulldogs also spoiled the Washington Madness debut of Randy Gill (6'2''-G-78, college: Bowie St.) by holding him to just 10 points scored. Thanks to this win, the Elmira Bulldogs have now a very strong chance of winning the EBA Northern Conference Empire Division and hosting a home quarterfinal playoff game on Saturday March 20th, with the winner advancing to the EBA Final 4 in Harrisburg, PA. See here down the results of the other two games played between sat 27 and sun 28: Metropolitan All-Stars 93 - Hampton Roads Cardinals 89 Harrisburg Horizon 99 - Metropolitan All-Stars 97
