"There's no doubt that the interest in another women's professional basketball league is there," stated Joe Newman , ABA CEO. "But it has been difficult organizing the league. Fortunately, we've put together a group of people with the backgrounds and skills to make the WABA something really special and to provide opportunities to those who want to own, coach and play in a top-notch professional women's league." Sonya Nichols will serve as WABA CEO. Ms Nichols boasts a sports resume that includes an assortment of both on and off court experiences including a tenure at James Madison University as a scholarship member of the NCAA tournament team. While in ISHA, she held the records for most rebounds in a game, season and career (two of the three are current); the number six rebounder in the nation's history behind greats like Lisa Leslie and Sheryl Miller and has helped organize and managed Michael Jordan's Basketball Camp, University of Illinois, Wisconsin and Notre Dame camps. She i9s currently in the telecommunications industry. Al Smith , currently co-owner of the ABA Orange County Novastars, will serve as WABA COO. Smith has been a fixture in Southern California basketball for many years organizing local teams for area recreational leagues and establishing a winning environment with local talent. With a background in mortgage finance and sales management, "I am confident that Sonya, Loretta and I can put together a very strong league," stated Smith. "We will make the WABA brand a stable one and bring value to all who join with us." Loretta Abrams will serve as WABA EVP. A graduate of Southern University of Louisiana, she has always had a passion for basketball and has taken additional certification courses in Athlete Management, Player Associations Legalities, Sports Management and Sports Contract Negotiations. She is a licensed sports agent and professional scout and has worked with the NBA Houston Rockets and WNBA Houston Comets as well as the WNBA New York Liberty. In his coaching debut for Chicago Lady Steam, Antonio d'Albero had to sweat it out to the very end with his team slipping by Columbus 73-68.
It was a close contest throughout the entire 40 minutes of the game.
In the first half, the Lady Steam was led on offense by the stellar plays of Shante Clark while Keshia Richardson made it extremely difficult for Columbus to generate any type of offensive tempo.

However, Lady Steam's newest addition of the team, Florencia Palacios (6'0''-G/F-85), came alive to create problems for Columbus's defense throughout the entire second half of the game. Palacios led the team in scoring with 20 points. It was appeared she was making every shot as she would finish the game making 8 of her 11 shots.
Nikkilettte Wright and Elexis Jackson were productive on both sides of the ball. They were the main contributors of orchestrating the development of the plays on offense and they aided in clamping down their teams defense in the closing minutes of the game to keep Columbus at bay. The team of the Windy City played an entire game of intensity and passion to give them the final edge over Columbus.
Coach d'Albero's preparation and hard-work in practice during the week reflected through his players throughout the game with his team playing hard-nosed defense while being electric when playing on offense. D'Albero lauding his players execution and performance in his game as Lady Steam's head-coach. "It was a hard game, but I saw very good things from my team. We are a work in progress and I am sure we will improve day by day,"

About her career She starts playing basketball in Argentina to Velez Sarfield youth team, where she wins her first junior Championship, before to move, in 2003, to the Union Florida - South America-. Even in 2003 she decides to move in Italy for two seasons and play for Carichieti Team (League A1) and then to New Aurora Pescara in the same year. In 2005/2006 season she signs with Pio XII di Santiago De Compostela, Spain, before to come back in Italy and win Italian Championship with new Aurora Pescara team. In 2006/2007 season reaches Playoffs semifinals with San Gabriele Basketball Milano Jersey, while in 2007/2008 she signs again for Pescara this time Yale's franchise, not New Aurora - but she moves in Viareggio, where she wins her second Italian Championship. Tuscany, Florence and Italian A2 League are the next steps of Florencia (2008/2009). In 2009/2010 she signs with Vomero Basket in Naples before to end the season in Castellammare di Stabia and reach her personal third Italian championship. In 2010 she moves to Denmark and signs with League A1 franchise Lemvig Basketball, after that she ended the season in Italy, in Casagiove, where she wins her fourth Italian championship. Last but not the least, she played for Argentinian National Team and many times for Europe Summer Leagues selections.
PALACIOS AS PLAYER She can play both forward spot. She is quick and strong at the same time and can guards small and power forward into or outside the paint. She is a very good mid and long range shooter, skills which allow her to dribbling from the basket or use her good jumper.
