Janel
McCarville
Minnesota Lynx strengthened their roster with addition of 34-year old center Janel McCarville (188-93kg-82, college: Minnesota, agency: Josep and Nicolas). It is actually her comeback to Minnesota Lynx as she played here before. McCarville moved there from Abdullah Gul in Turkish KBSL where she started the season. In 23 games she recorded 7.4ppg, 5.3rpg, 2.1apg and 1.2spg this season. She helped them to make it to the Turkish Cup Semifinals. McCarville also played 12 games in Euroleague where she averaged 7.9ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.7apg. The last season she played at Liaoning Hengye (WCBA) in Chinese league. In 15 games she averaged 10.9ppg, 6.7rpg and 1.9spg.
The previous (2014) summer McCarville played at Minnesota. In 40 games she averaged 7.7ppg, 4.7rpg, 2.9apg and 1.0spg in 2014 season. She contributed to her team ending the regular season as at the second position in the league. They also advanced to the league semifinals. The last (2014) season McCarville played at MKS Polkowice (BLK) in Polish league. In 24 games she averaged 11.3ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.5apg and 1.4spg in 2013-14 season. She contributed to her team making it to the final after they ended regular season as second best team. Great season indeed as she was voted to Eurobasket.com Polish BLK All-Imports Team, 2nd Team and to the All-Star Game. McCarville also played 11 games in Euroleague where she averaged 9.8ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.5apg and 1.3spg in 2013-14 season.
In 2005 Charlotte Sting selected her as first overall pick in WNBA draft.
McCarville attended University of Minnesota and it will be her eleventh (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Among other achievements her team won Italian Supercup in 2012. McCarville received also Eurobasket.com All-Slovakian Extraliga Player of the Year award and Eurobasket.com All-Slovakian Extraliga Import Player of the Year award back in 2008.
She is a very experienced player. McCarville has played also professionally in Russia (Spartak Vidnoye, CSKA Moscow and BC Moscow), Spain (Mann Filter), other WNBA team (New York Liberty), Italy (Familia Schio).
The scouts decsribe her following way: Great all around post player that can play 4 and 5 position equally good. She play with great spirit in every game. Real leader on the court and with her fighting spirit give good example to her team mates. Even maybe undersized, she is a great rebounder on both ends of the court and scoring inside with great percentage. Janel have skills of ball handling and passing as a players on guard position. Surely one of the 'rising stars' of basketball.
